Examples Of Realism In Fast Car
I think that "Fast Car", by Tracy Chapman, is an example of Realism. This song has very deep meaning, and I wouldn't be surprised if it also had other 'isms' hidden inside the text, such as romanticism. One excellent example of realism is in the text "You still ain't got a job; And I work in a market as a checkout girl" (p6), the speaker is practically telling her boyfriend to "grow up". Then, later that paragraph, she says that things will get better for them. This shows that, although she has a hard life, she is still hopeful about the future. Another good example is when she says this: "You gotta make a decision; Leave tonight or live and die this way" (p4, p10). In doing this, the speaker is giving her boyfriend an ultimatum: leave with

This is the first psychiatric hospital admission for the patient, Holden Caulfield, a 17 year-old male, at Massachusetts General Hospital. The subject freely admitted himself to the care facility at 13:00 on November 28, 1958, with the company of his parents-whose consent was necessary given Holden's legal status as a minor. His induction will be taking place without any incident. Within the time of his arrival, Holden appeared to be quite exhausted and dilapidated. He was wearing woolen slacks and a warm jacket, yet appeared to be suffering from some sort of intense disturbance. His walk was slow and his gait guarded, as if he expected an attack at any moment; he appeared lucid, and sarcastic as well as confused, however, did not mask his above average intelligence. This became specifically apparent to the nurses assigned to his immediate care. The patient has also displayed a penchant for sarcastic comments, especially regarding “phonies”-at this time, we remain unsure of whom he is referring to when he uses this terminology.…

In Gordon Johnson’s collection of essays, Fast Cars and Frybread, he shows the evolution of Native American’s culture. What is more interesting is the blending of cultures that we know many years ago with the European Americans and the Native Americans. Johnson shows a lot of comparison between these two cultures. First, he emphasizes the feeling of these cultures to being “otherness” to the white colonists. For example, in his essay, A Hawk’s Cry, a Dusty Saddle, and Memories, he describes about his buddy Jimmy Balcone’s aunt as living with “no electricity, no refrigeration, no TV, not even a dog” (Johnson 11). It is implied how at first, the Native Americans generation back to Luther Standing Bear’s generation lives like this without technology;…

Realism from 1865 to the present has changed. As authors have moved into a global world, their writing has become less regional and therefore less realistic. Writers today do research instead of writing about what they already know about. As the world has become more global, authors have become more full. To a certain extent, realism is about presenting a limited view because is very much about regionalism. An author can only write realistically about what he/she knows.…

Realism, as the name implies, is a concept that deals with reality, or the actuality of something. In film, the realism as a style does not imply that what is going on in the film is true to real life, but more that the techniques used while filming made it seem real. Documentary films are the closest to a truly realistic depiction of life, with actual people and events, however these are not the only films that deal with realism. In Ryan Fleck’s film, Half Nelson (Ryan Fleck, USA, 2006), a realist style is used as a means of portraying the struggles of drug abuse, the demise of idealism as a lifestyle, and the perception of hopelessness for life in general. All three of which are themes evident throughout the movie and can be represented through realist styles. Long takes, mainly long and medium shots, use of contemporary, true to life subjects, vernacular dialogue and other techniques help to portray the indication of realism as a style throughout the film.…

Realism plays don’t have to have any sort of originality but they are normally written directly from real life events. When play writers are writing a realistic play they tend to write the play as common and close to everyday speech and actions of humans. Realistic plays almost always recall on flashbacks, which consist of scenes that occurred in the characters past. In realistic plays actors and actresses do not even look directly at the audience, many of times in these plays actors do not even acknowledge the audience’s presence in order to give it that realistic feel. Take the play Joe Turners come and gone for example the characters sway away from keeping in contact with the crowd and they make sure not to look at the audience for any reason. If I where to write a play on the realism of a high school students way of speaking, I would be sure to use a lot of slang in my speech to make it as realistic as possible.…

All across our nation we have been burdened as American citizens by what feels like a moral dilemma. The issue of births from unauthorized immigrant parents has become more prevalent in the past decade. In 2007, 9% of all babies were born to immigrant parents in the United States (Passel and Cohn). More recently, in 2013, 295,000 babies were born to illegal aliens (“Overall number of unauthorized immigration hold steady since 2009”). Thus presenting an obvious problem that needs to be evaluated rather than ignored. Though one must consider the detrimental effect, this could have on a child. Is it wrong to separate a mother from their child once they have been born in the U.S.? Children of illegal immigrants face consequences for their parents being undocumented citizens.…
