The movie Beowulf is all about sacrifice. We know that being a hero is not that easy. It's a long list to become one. Like Beowulf he sacrifices his life for the sake of his kingdom, and recognized him as a hero.
Beowulf is the son of ecgtheow who's friend of king hrohtgar the king of geatland. King hrothgar truly believed that Beowulf can easily kill the monster, which is the threat of the kingdom geatland named Grendel. Grendel is a huge man like an ogre a son of king hrohtgar.     In the epic poem Beowulf, Grendel is portrayed as a horrible monster that is powerful and malevolent.
