Every father (mother) has legitimate spiritual authority over the children. The words of the parents over the children carry weight and recognition before God. The pronouncements could help to make or mar the child. The destinies of children are formed and deformed with words spoken by the father or mother either in good conscience or not; either well intended or not. Every parent that understands this is selective on the kinds of words pronounced over his children.

This act is an utter violation of the commandment of the Lord that says; “the nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.” Leviticus 18:8.
Jacob heard this wicked and abominable act but did not say anything at that moment. But when he was about to die several tens of years after he said this to Reuben:
“And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days. Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father. Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.” (Genesis 49:1-4)
Reuben was born to excel but he destroyed his place in history through attitude of adulterous flirtation with one of the father’s wives. This act attracted curse from the father. And the consequence was that Reuben and his descendants lost the birthright and attendant
