Matthew 28:16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Key term index: * Go; Although it is commonly taught that the word go is the most important work in this passage although it would be more accurate to say that make is more important. It is likely that the Greek phrase would’ve said; “while you are going, make disciples.” Why is this important? Because it is wrong to say that all Christians are to go into cross-cultural mission, and also that the great commission is only targeted to those going into full time mission or overseas mission. The great commission applies to everyone, we should have the same sense of purpose if we stay in our hometown as if we were to do mission overseas. * Make disciples; By Jesus calling us to ‘make disciples’ he is not saying go out and see how many people you can convert but what this means is, that we are to spend time teaching people Jesus’ ways, about who he is and how we should live our lives day-to-day in light of him so that they can do the same. Jesus spent 3 years with his disciples before saying that they were ready to go out into the world. As Christians we need to put time into each new convert as apposed to simply moving on and trying to

When one views the life of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament it is evident that he had a heart to disciple others. The evidence at hand identified Paul as more than an individual who had doctrinal knowledge, for he was the quintessential model for living out the standards of Christian behavior. In his letter to the Church of Philippi Paul encourage them to “Whatever…

This mission reminds us that for the Kingdom of God to continue to break in, individual lives need to be changed, while being motivated and equipped for transformation. Our Book of Discipline offers this cue: “God has used our church to save persons, heal relationships, transform social structures, and spread scriptural holiness, thereby changing the world.” When we change lives and introduce people to the all-loving nature of God, we indeed transform the world. When making disciples, the Church welcomes people into community, educates them on God’s call for Christians, and equips them toward using their spiritual gifts to serve as change agents playing a role in bringing about the Kingdom of…

Evangelism could be described briefly as proclaiming God's heart to the people who lived without standards of truth. Evangelism with the heart of God is being based upon worshipping God and glorifying God as well. Worshipping God is means to rejoice in God and to reveal Jesus in one’s life.1 Authors David Wheeler and Vernon M. Whaley in "The Great Commission to God" book have emphasized the importance of Worship to the reader in order for Christian to become a great commission worshipper. Authors have asserted that the top points in the book are worship and evangelism. These are a matter of cardinal importance to Believers who desire to live God's will and way. Because God created us for glorifying him and worshipping him, he poured out the Holy Spirit to Christians for discipleship. Believers should continue loving God by worshipping God and loving neighbors as Jesus showed us the evangelistic life if believers want to live faithful life and achieve God’s great commission.…

As Christians, it is our responsibility to share the message of Jesus Christ in our every day life, even if it isn’t the popular thing to do. Jesus didn’t call it the “Great Suggestion,” he called it the “Great Commission.” He isn’t suggesting this instruction, he’s commanding it! Why? Because Jesus earned the right by shedding his blood for our sins. He has provided us with eternal life and the forgiveness of sins. We should be honored to carry out such a task of bringing more people to Christ! We have a reason to share his word because Jesus goes with us. He is our source of strength. He provides us with courage. He allows the Holy Spirit to work through us. What an incredible gift. So go out and make disciples of all nations, trusting in God to fuel your passion for him everyday and allowing his light to shine through in your…

Christ is the central person in Christian discipleship. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Christ is central to Christian discipleship because He is the teacher of His disciples. Through the Holy Spirit and Word of God, Jesus Christ calls His disciples to Him and then teaches them how to become like Him. Jesus gives free salvation to believers and followers of Him. However, there is a cost of following Jesus. To be a disciple of Jesus Christ, a person must be obedient and follow the commandments of God. Being obedient to Christ demands followers of Christ to put Christ before their personal relationships, careers, friends, children, and material belongings and to take up their own cross on a daily basis. Disciples of Christ must put Jesus before their own fleshly desires. Nevertheless, followers of Christ can be assured that Jesus will lead them as they follow His teachings and obey His commandments while acting like Jesus and living as he lived (Rogers, Adrian, 2005).…
