At the age of nineteen, my grandmother married my grandfather, Daniel Hartmann (Pop-Pop in the Hartmann family), who was twenty years old at the time with a stint in the United States Marines in his future. The two later moved to Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, where they would go on to have six children: Daniel, Neil, Thomas, James, Robert, and Mary Ann. I believe another part of it, on the other hand, is my realization that women can be powerful people outside of what they look like. There are many women in the world that I feel I can look up to, in my personal life as well as in the media. Especially in today’s age of social media, it is easy to see women standing up for themselves and speaking out for what they believe in, which is something that I find empowering, even if I am not the biggest fan of social media to begin with. As a recent example, we just got to see a woman on the ticket of a major party for the Presidential election. While Hillary Clinton did not win the election (though she did win the popular vote), she broke boundaries for women all over the country.
