The safest place to be is away from the fire.
To survive a bushfire you must firstly have a bushfire to survive from. No that does not mean you go light the local park on fire. But if a bushfire comes your way, this is what to do.
1: Think of you first: Everyone else is thinking of their survival. There is no time to be helping people unless you REALLY need to, they should be fine on their own and you could be slowing yourself or other people down.
2: Only stay and defend your house if you have a good chance: You should not defend your house if you don’t have a good range of people to help fight it, or if it is too close try to get as far away from the fire as you can.
3: Sheltering in your house: Stay in the room
furthest away from the progressing fire, (the opposite side of the house). Take shelter inside a room with two exits, preferably one exit to outside. If your room is overrun by flames get out of the room into a different room, ones that are already burnt are the best to stay in, make sure to shut all doors or you may die from radiant heat.
4: After the fire front passes: Go outside once you know it is safe and try to extinguish all flames. Drink plenty of water and know what’s happening by the internet, radio or television.
