Identify the current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, including e-safety
All staff within a school environment are responsible for the welfare of children, and to ensure that they are kept safe from harm. It is the right of every child to have a safe and secure environment to learn in and to develop essential skills for adulthood. Safeguarding which replaced the term child protection has only been developed in the last 50 years. High profile cases such as Maria Colwell in 1973 and Victoria Climbie in 2000 proved the need to revise legislation.

They work in partnership with education, health, social care, police, youth justice and probation to ensure that the local provision for safeguarding is effective. The board is made up of experts from a range of childrens services.
Education
Within every school there is a designated staff member (usually the head teacher or another member of the senior management team) who undertakes the responsibility of The Child Protection Officer. They must provide the relevant training for staff members before employment. They must know, support and protect children on the 'at risk register '. This is children who have been identifed as being at risk from harm or abuse. They should carry out an annual reviews of the child protection policy and pass on any relevent documents when a child leaves that school.
Early Years Development and Child Care Partnership
The local authority is responsible for compiling information on the various different child minding services and day nurseries within its jurisdiction.Each committee will comprise of a range of public and voluntary working in the field.
