1-2 years Babies push and pull toys around the room. The build small towers, will make marks on paper when given a pencil or crayon. This is when a preference for which hand they will use can be seen. Use a spoon when feeding also enjoys finger foods. Hold a cup with both hands, wave goodbye and shake their head to say no. At this age a baby wants to be around familiar people and will get upset when left with strangers. Whilst going to sleep or being left in a situation where the baby feels anxious a comforter may be used to settle them. At this age a baby can start to carry out an instruction given as its memory is developing more and more through play, but they won’t be able to carry out multiple instructions. As babies hear repetitive words and phrases they use this to start making sounds, to then develop onto saying single words, then putting a few together to make a phrase. They will start to see how conversations are put together by listening to parents and start to try and copy this.
2-3 years They will build higher towers, draw in more of a circular motion on paper. They
