Developments in the visual arts since the late nineteenth century display a fascinating succession of movements and styles. Among the most notable movements are Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism and Dada. These movements have provided an assortment of treasures for visitors at museum around the world and a wealth of material for art historians. The changes may seem to puzzling to some historians as they attempt to interpret and understand the meaning of modern art and determining its boundaries.
The history of humanity can be seen through visual arts and just like previous evolutions, time will eventually destroy much of the visual culture that we are familiar with today. Future Art historians will try to understand the world we now live in by reconstructing some of the popular trends, to better understand how we lived our lives. Maybe someday too, art historians will try to understand the meaning of street graffiti and what role it played in our society.

They foster social justice and equality and they also reveal many ways that people try to make moral, spiritual and intellectual sense of our world. Humanities teaches us empathy, it also teaches us to think critically and logically whenever we encounter biased or complex information. The humanities encourage us to think creatively enabling us to become informed citizens, so that we can ask questions about our existence and our world. The humanities remain significant and important today and will be even more significant in the future, regardless of the advancements of our technological minded
