Introduction
Greeting my fellow classmates and a happy holiday. As the name implies, non-communicable diseases are those diseases that cannot pass from one individual to another individual, these diseases include coronary heart disease, stomach ulceration, stroke, ischemic diseases, neuropsychiatric diseases, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes etc. Previously, in our community we referred to these diseases as the “rich man” diseases, because it was the diseases of the affluence, meaning people in higher socioeconomic status. However, recent epidemiologic indicators show that these diseases are now common to the poorer communities than the affluent societies. How? Why? What are risk …show more content…
Behavioural and dietary risk factors exacerbated by poverty, unemployment, lack of public health education and severe economic hardship plays a major role towards contributing to non-communicable diseases. The study conducted by Mozaffarian, Hao, Rimm, Willett & Hu (2011), concludes that consumption of processed foods high in starches, fats and sugars increases obesity, However, the question is affordability. In developing countries most people cannot afford good meals, all they can afford are foods and fake medications that increase the risk of diseases.
