As McMahon says in her article, “And, while knowing how to annotate a chapter is a necessary skill, it is probably not one that will help a student remember the terrain of a specific geographic area: A series of note cards or an organization chart would be better for that.” Some students go to college and are not aware that they are going to have to study harder or maybe even study differently than they would if they were taking a high school class. Students need to be taught how to properly study before they go to college and are left on their own. If each class a student goes to would set aside one day or even one hour a week to teach the students how to properly study for that specific class, they would be more likely to make better grades, as well as, have less trouble when they are on their own in …show more content…
If a student has never been introduced to college-level work then they are going to be unprepared for what it looks like and what it takes to do it, when they get to college. This being said, few students enter college, but do not truly know whether they are academically prepared or not (McMahon). One way to help the students know if they are prepared is if students could be told in each year of high school, what they need to be doing to improve in their scholastics to get them ready for college-level work. Another way to help with the problem of students being unaware if they are prepared is, after students take their ACT, they need to be put in classes that strictly prepare them for college-level work in whatever classes they are lacking the proper skills
