Explain Why Juveniles Should Not Be Tried As Adults
Juveniles should not be tried as adults because being an adult prison make their life so much harder and makes them face things that they shouldn't have to face. Children in an adult penitentiary are at a higher risk of suicide, rape and also assaults (Horowitz-Prisco). There are many reasons on why they are at a higher risk of anything happening to them than someone who has been there before. One of the major reasons that they are at a higher risk is because they are young and have more energy than someone else. They are raped because most men in jail like pretending that they are touching a women and when a young man comes in with characteristics of a women it throws up a red flag. They are attacked more than any other because they are easily

Juveniles do not have the tactics that they should and many do not know how to fight to protect themselves. All of this leads them to wanting to kill themselves to get out of the situation especially if they are in their for a long period of time. Juveniles are in the same building as someone who has committed worse crimes than they have and they may be in there just for a simple charge of vandalism. Living in a prison destroys their mental ability and makes it harder for them to actually live a life. Someone who has went to juvi has a better chance of getting out and doing something with their life, while they are also less likely to ever return back (Horowitz). When they are put in an adult prison they are considered a convict and it makes it harder for them to ever get a job and have a better future if they are ever to get out. When a juvenile is in an adult prison and they get out they are at a higher risk to come back (Horowitz). This is because they did not get the right structure that they needed to better themselves and learn from their mistakes. Juveniles who attended juvi have 50% are released before they are 21 and over 90% are released before they are 25 (Parsell). With this is showing is that they are getting time but not a lot as in adult prison where juveniles get years on top of years.
