3. In the Odyssey hospitality was a big deal because it showed what the citizens values where. The whole concept behind hospitality is that is you were lost you would want someone to take care of you. this is a key values because Odysseus is trying to get home and throughout the whole story he must stay at others homes. In book 6 is says “But now, since it is our land and our city that you have come to, you shall not lack for clothing nor anything else, of those gifts which should befall the unhappy suppliant on his arrival.”(6.191-193) In that part of the text the Phaiakians take Odysseus in and treat him well to make themselves looks good. The hospitality is a lot different from that time period and if you were to do that to a stranger that was lost you would looked as strange or crazy. I think that because since time has changed from when accepted strangers with open arms and now we shy them away because we have a different way of looking at them. We are quick to judge especially by appearance that is the leading factor behind why we don't bring strangers into our home.
