Characters in a novel are the key to developing a story. Seeing that without them, there would be nothing to write about. The characters in this particular novel have experienced a trauma that most will never and should never have to experience. Losing a loved one in a tragic accident. Though, death is a natural part of life losing someone dear to you, but not knowing how they passed is one of the hardest things to have to go through. This, however, is what oscar was going experiencing throughout the duration of the novel. Being the main character, his thoughts, actions, and encounters become the main focus. His ability to think allows for his character to progress far beyond the average nine- year- old. However, the manner in which he thinks shows hints of his youth “I could invent a set of kettles that sings the chorus of ''Yellow Submarine'' which is a song by the Beatles, who I love, because entomology is one of my raisons d'être, which is a French expression that I know.
