I believe the FDA’s Office of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the appropriate place to gain meaningful experience in the field of pharmaceutical regulation. I am particularly interested in working with the Office of New Drug Quality Assessment department in order to be familiar with the review processes involved in a new drug approval. From the point where the pharmaceutical company starts developing the drug in the laboratory until it is considered safe and effective takes a lot of time for proper coordination. My rotation at the FDA will definitely make me to be aware of FDA’s role in these entire processes, and what criteria are required to be met before considering it safe to be approved.
Furthermore, having a rotation at the FDA is going to be very beneficial to me in such a way that it would create opportunities for me to work with experts and professionals from different fields. I like to learn something new every day and working with multidisciplinary professionals will be a great privilege to do some networking. I read about drug “pre-approval” stage by the FDA and I really do not know how it works. I will like to learn more about the parameters to have a drug pre-approved for use by patients.
In conclusion, I am so certain that if given the opportunity to have a five-week rotation at the FDA, I will be able to utilize my time to effectively familiarize myself with the reviews and processes involved in developing a new drug from the laboratory to the point where it becomes available for commercial
