Some people may say social networking is a bad thing; you may spend hours upon hours on a social networking site instead of doing something productive for society. One of the main reasons I believe social networking is a good thing is it’s a way of meeting new friends and connecting with old friends who you may have lost contact with, it’s a way to connect and meet new people, and finally it can save lives that shouldn’t be lost.
The biggest reason I believe social networking is a good thing is it’s a way to connect with old friends. All of us have those high school classmates that you haven’t talked to since graduation and you sit down and think “man I wonder whatever became of them”.Wouldn't you like a way to connect with them? In today’s world you have it but if it weren’t for social networking there’s a good chance you may never see them again. But with social networking you can find out where they live and meet up with them and catch up and find out what they have done with their life. Through social networking you can gain all these advantages that you otherwise would not have without social networking. Wouldn’t you like to be able to communicate with others any time you wish? It’s just ways social networking benefits you and I.
Another big reason social networking is a good thing is it gives you an opportunity to meet new people and get to know them without the pressure of being face to face. Sometimes when you’re face to face you feel pressured and it can be a little bit awkward, but with social networking you can get to know each other then when the time is right you can meet face to face. Social networking just makes the whole situation much less awkward. Haven’t you ever felt pressured when meeting new people? Then you may run into another problem what if there not real? Well through social networking it is a little bit harder to fake who you are so you may have better luck of it being the actual person through social networking. Social networking is

In Stites’ article Someone To Watch Over Me she discusses the role that social networks play in her life. According to her she spends a good amount of free time on various different social networks. She says that she would rather spend her time talking to people online than in person. Stites then goes on to explain how she finds a thrill in finding new friends online. In my opinion social networks overall have a negative effect on your life. As the Hilary Stout wrote, in the article “Antisocial Networking?” I spend a lot of time on social networks, also. I am a young student with laptop, cellphone, Internet, Facebook beside me like others in college. Sometimes, I also think that whether social networks is good for us. I have no idea because I am forced to use it to connect with my friends every single day. Now I have a chance to read this article and think about it carefully. Social networks impacts me so much. Will Social network really improve our life? The pluses include easier contact with friends, more chances to make new friends and create a community, and also find a romantic relationship. Most of these networks include advertising programs which target particular user with his or her interest. Social network can also bring customers and traffic to your business or website at a modest cost. Using social network site can improve our relationships with friend and family that live somewhere different then you are. It is cheaper to write somebody on Facebook instead of sending them a letter thought the mail, or even imagine sending a letter internationally. Using social networks we can ask questions and receive answers more quickly. Another fact is that social networks are great boredom killers. Social networking sites allow you to connect with old friends from high school, family that lives far away, in my case, even in another country as missionaries, friends down the street, coworkers, and just about anyone else you can think of. This can make you feel more connected to the world around you. You can keep up with what everyone is doing and accomplishing in their lives very easily through statuses and pictures posted every day. I have met new family members, whether by marriage or by birth, through Facebook who I otherwise have not had the opportunity to meet. One of my uncles, who recently passed away, had an affair about thirty years ago and did not realize he had a son from that affair until his son decided to find his father. Facebook is the only way I have been able to meet my new found cousin and his family. But when you start looking at the downside of social networking, it can make you wonder if it is really worth the cost. There have been many debates on the issues of using these sites for many years, so there have been quite a few downsides brought to the public’s attention such as health issues like anxiety or depression, lower grades for students of all levels, decreased productivity in the workplace, someone being stalked and so forth. Since there are way too many to cover in this paper, I am going to concentrate on three that I feel are some of the most important issues. Some of the issues with social networking sites are identity theft made easier, cyber bullying, which has caused many suicides, and strong face-to-face relationships suffering and being replaced by weaker online relationships.…

The first reason that social networking is bad for society is that it makes people lazy and overweight. About two decades ago, when people were bored, they would go outside and do something. You could go ride a bike, take your dog for a walk, play a round of baseball, or hit the gym and exercise. Nowadays, many people just go on their phones and “tweet” about how bored they or scroll through a friends new pictures and click the “like” button a few times. Sure, social networking might give you something “to do,” but really, you aren’t doing anything! Especially in American society, where the obesity rate has…
