Nowadays, Facebook uses have increasingly become an integral part of everyone’s daily routines and it must be exists in everyone’s life.Facebook has more than 750 million users worldwide. Facebook is used to keep in touch and sharing life or mood with friends. There are lots of benefits of using Facebook. Still, Facebook gives a limited view of our friends’ lives and the view tends to be unrealistically positive.
Self-perception means a consciousness of the characteristics from any mental or physical that represents one's self. It is about how you perceive yourself or how you see yourself in the way of confidence, personality, physical appearance and life. According to Daryl Bem, self-perception theory is refers to people observing their own behaviors, attitudes and feelings they behave in certain situation, hence developing towards them. This theory actually downplays the emotions and internal thoughts in shaping attitude (Merriam-webster.com, 2013). For instances, someone is pretty and slim but they see themselves as ugly and fat. When someone is ugly and fat, they see themselves as beautiful and thin. Identity is defined as the distinct behavioral or personal characteristics that make someone different from others. Basically, identity isused to determine who you are, how you think about yourself, what characteristics define you and the way you are viewed by the world. One of the examples of identity is the name of a person.
In my opinion, Facebook use does and impact on our psychological well-being, self-esteem and happiness. Facebook can distort and harmful for self-esteem of a person. Self-esteem is a personality trait which used to describe a person’s overall sense of personal value (Cherry, 2013). Facebook can create an issue called Facebook-envy (The Economist, 2013).
