There should have been more about Christopher Columbus on the United States history myths search. Not only did he not discover that the world was round, but he never even landed in America. The more research I did, the worst I found out he was. In 1492, Christopher Columbus and the Santa Maria shipwrecked off what is known now as the Bahamas. The land was inhabited by the peaceful Lucayan people. The Lucayan people worked for hours rescuing the crew and ship. Christopher Columbus did not look at the Lucayan as people but as a means to wealth. Men were forced to provide him with food and gold while women were forced to have sex with his men. If they refused, Christopher Columbus would cut off their ear or nose to serve as a warning to the others.
He also forced young girls to be sex slaves. Girls as young as nine and ten years old were given to his lieutenants as rewards. When the natives rebelled against him, Christopher Columbus saw an opportunity to slaughter thousands. The natives were no matched against Columbus's army, only being armed with sticks, spears, and rocks. After the very short war, Columbus took over five hundred natives back to Spain to be sold as slaves. Of the five hundred natives that were taken, only three hundred survived the voyage. Christopher Columbus is not only a villain but he should not even be famous. Why it is an American holiday is beyond me. I think we need to change the text books that are being taught to our children to remove the carnage that is the history of Christopher Columbus.
