Describe what happened in your own words: So far in my reading of Fahrenheit 451, I have learned about a man named Guy Montag. So far Montag’s life has not been filled with excitement or thrill, he has a pretty dull and boring life. Montag is married, but he isn't very content with it. He has just begun to understand how life really is. He and the people of this unknown city are living in the 24th century. Montag is a fireman in his 30’s and he along with many other people are under the belief that books are not to be read ever. In Montag’s time, firemen are not exactly what you think they would be. Today’s firemen put out fires and extinguish deadly flames. In there time, firemen start the fires and make the flames stronger. Today’s firemen …show more content…
and the firemen of there time are the complete opposite. However, the type of fireman Montag is, his job is to burn books. In the story, books are something a person should not have at anytime. No one should make contact with it. Books are being prohibited to have because they are trying to stop arguments and fights over literature. Throughout the beginning of the story Montag is under the impression that books will never be read and no book will be seen again. These thoughts and these beliefs that Montag has are overthrown by his neighbor Clarisse. Clarisse is a teenager that helps Montag question whether he is doing something he really wants to do. Montag then starts to question what he really wants to do and who he really wants to be.
2. Make Connections: “And I thought about books. And for the first time i realized that a man was behind each one of the books.” - said by Montag (chapter 1). Being shut out from secrets is something crazy and obscure. People don't want to be lied to, as the same for hiding something from one another. Imagine Montag’s feelings and thoughts he had as he wonders who wrote these books, what are books, and why. These are questions people as for myself ask today. Not only about things that are unknown, but things that we are fascinated or intrigued by. Montag is being held from knowing the beauty of literature. He is being held from stories, lessons, and tragedies that are being written by outstanding authors. What is crazier about knowing that something is being hidden from you, is finding out the secrets behind the unknown.
3. Describe most memorable moment: The most memorable moment to me in Fahrenheit 451, is the very first time Clarisse and Montag meet. This is a critical moment in the story because she was the one who made Montag wonder and question the way of his life.
4.
Determine the theme: Be the best version of yourself. Be unique and be someone with there own beliefs, knowledge, and thoughts. Stay open minded.
5. Determine the most rhetorical strategies and literary devices used by the author: Ray Bradbury’s use of communication with the characters are key strategies to make the reader comprehend what the character is feeling.
6. Provide any additional descriptions and observations: Throughout the story i noticed that most of the character’s personalities are boring and dull. My reasoning for this is because most of them do things that today we will find insignificant, irrelevant, and boring. Most of the characters enjoy watching TV and lying down all day. My hypothesis is that their lives are so dull because of the impact that the people didn't get from literature and reading.
7. Make up two critical questions you would like to discuss with your classmates: 1) Do you believe that there are any other reasons to why books are not to be in position of? 2) What do you think that Montag will do next to finding more about these mysteries?
