Although the documentary is very catastrophic at times, and very sobering, it still manages to be funny.
The scene of Michael Moore driving around in an ice cream truck reading the Patriot Act in Washington, D.C. is priceless. At one point, an interview with a pro-war Britney Spears is included, which is undoubtedly funny. Clips of George W. Bush saying the most random, idiotic things can make anyone laugh. He looks particularly stupid when asked about what he was doing the rest of the day when he replies "things" and, some other "things." At times it makes me question why this fool was even ever elected. I like the way Moore included a little humor, while still making his
point. Moore knows how to use sensory images and senses to his advantage, and music is one of those. He builds hype with motivational songs, as the soldiers go off to war. More tense moments are accompanied with slow reflective music. The sounds during the World Trade Center attacks are devastating and emotional, as he shows people weeping on the streets of New York. The documentary includes chilling pictures of the Iraqi children after being bombed that are so graphic, it makes one want to cringe. There are images of America soldiers torturing Iraqis. No one can argue that Michael Moore is good at letting us relive terror. A very climatic point in the film is when George W. Bush discovers of the attack on our nation. He remains calm and chooses to continue reading My Pet Goat to the elementary kids. Would any other president just sit there and continue? Shouldn't have our commander-in-chief flung into action? Why didn't George? This is very shocking, and worrisome. I simply wonder why this documentary alone did not vote him out of office. Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is not just an anti- war propaganda. Although it is extremely one-sided, it is a documentary filled with facts. In the end, those that support Bush will write this off as just trying to destroy Bush's character. But, has he not done that himself? A president that can't recite the exact saying of "fool me once, shame on you" should not be the leader of this country.
