Fair-Minded Qualities
I believe that I possess the quality to be a fair minder thinker. A fair-mindedness thinker should possess the ability to treat all viewpoints alike, without having a position to your own feelings or interests; you should also not take the side of your friend’s opinions. I do feel that I have an understanding and the knowledge and the ability to think like someone else and think like they do and to truly listen intently, to understand them and what they are trying to say. I do feel that I am able to do this because I can review all the information and thoughts of other people, as well as the reason why even if they are not my own thoughts. (Paul and Elder’s (2006) Characteristics of a Fair-Minded Thinker) I also remember a few times when I have been wrong in a circumstances despite an intense conviction of being right.
I feel that there are two qualities that I need to improve on, one of those is to work on my Intellectual perseverance, as well as Intellectual autonomy. I picked these two because, first an intellectual perseverance has been defined as the “personality disposition to work one 's way through intellectual complexities despite the frustration inherent in the task” (Paul and Elder’s (2006) Characteristics of a Fair-Minded Thinker). This is something that I feel that I give up to early or quickly especially when I am faced with complex problems. Please remember that some of the projects that I have been involved with over the years have lasted two or three years. When I become frustrated I end up working on other things that are more interesting. I think that I can overcome some of this by breaking down large projects into different buckets to be able to work on them, or as a team each one working his or different buckets. I believe that I can understand intellectual perseverance better now so that I can do better at handling my frustration and try to get to the bottom of a problem
