Fair-Minded Qualities
I believe that I possess the quality to be a fair minder thinker. A fair-mindedness thinker should possess the ability to treat all viewpoints alike, without having a position to your own feelings or interests; you should also not take the side of your friend’s opinions. I do feel that I have an understanding and the knowledge and the ability to think like someone else and think like they do and to truly listen intently, to understand them and what they are trying to say. I do feel that I am able to do this because I can review all the information and thoughts of other people, as well as the reason why even if they are not my own thoughts. (Paul and Elder’s (2006) Characteristics of a Fair-Minded Thinker) I also remember a few times when I have been wrong in a circumstances despite an intense conviction of being right.
I feel that there are two qualities that I need to improve on, one of those is to work on my Intellectual perseverance, as well as Intellectual autonomy. I picked these two because, first an intellectual perseverance has been defined as the “personality disposition to work one 's way through intellectual complexities despite the frustration inherent in the task” (Paul and Elder’s (2006) Characteristics of a Fair-Minded Thinker). This is something that I feel that I give up to early or quickly especially when I am faced with complex problems. Please remember that some of the projects that I have been involved with over the years have lasted two or three years. When I become frustrated I end up working on other things that are more interesting. I think that I can overcome some of this by breaking down large projects into different buckets to be able to work on them, or as a team each one working his or different buckets. I believe that I can understand intellectual perseverance better now so that I can do better at handling my frustration and try to get to the bottom of a problem

My mind is always all over the spectrum of things. I am able to think logically whenever there is a problem that confronts me. I am able to think of many different outcomes and possibilities very quickly while keeping myself and others in mind all at the same time. Although I am egotistical which is a normal human trait. I know when things are not about me and I understand that problems or issues are bigger than just myself. I feel that this is a talent or trait that I actually have been born with. I have always been that person that people come to for advice on things or ideas and I have even taken a psychological screen test to show that my way of thinking is extremely advanced for my age. This type of thinker rejects the manipulation and controlling of others, and combines “critical thought, fairmindedness, self-insight, and a genuine desire to serve the public good” (Paul & Elder, 2013, p. 301). They are interested in all points of view, and actively seek a better, more principled and ethical world. Fairminded people have worked on becoming that way, developing their thinking with a desire to self-improve and to influence others for good. They want manipulative thinkers exposed, and to educate others on how to identify and guard against skilled…

I was very lucky to have gotten this attribute. What got me this characteristic was that very day when Leslie had told me she was getting surgery. The reason why Leslie was the reason I endured this characteristic was because I had the mindset to take care of Leslie yet, prioritize myself to also finish my homework. Today, I use this mindset of being determined in my everyday life. I used it for many of my extracurricular activities like the National Technical Honor Society, Link Crew, Leadership and Yearbook. Although I use them in my extracurricular activities, I also use determination to complete many school projects, essays and even to the extent, homework. In National Technical Honor Society, I utilize determination when we create projects to help build awareness for others like, donating blood for the blood drive and encouraging recycling to make the earth a better sufficient place. While in Link Crew, I manipulate the power of determination to help exemplify students to be the best they can be and to also have the best school experience as possible. In,Leadership I use determination to set an example for younger students to follow by staying positive, even under stress or frustration. As a matter of fact, I also use determination when the class is under a timed schedule with getting major events done. Above all, Yearbook is the one I intend to succeed in the most. Creating the Yearbook is like creating a story; I am so bound to making the book breathtaking compared to the previous ones. I am constantly adamant to get all my pages done on time, but also making sure they are very creative and well organized and thought out. As a result, in all of these accomplishments I have been known to be successful with the help of being…

Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean….actually, the question is, do you have them. A man named Dwight Moody once said, "Character is what you are in the dark." You cannot see your morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it.…

The movie I chose to watch was Glory (1989). Glory is the story of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first formal unit of African American men, led by Colonel Robert Shaw, whom I have chosen to compare. The Colonel is a white man who fights the bigotry of the enemy, who have vowed to kill any officers who lead the troops and by his own commanding officers who have kept them out of the war to do their dirty work. Colonel Shaw starts the War eager and zealous for the fight, the battle of Antietam leaves his disillusioned and wounded.…

The view I believe to be most correct is Character Ethics. This view point doesn’t focus on individual actions, it focuses on what kind of person those actions create. It also asks, what character traits make a good person. At the heart of this system of ethics are the virtues, a disposition of having the right feeling. These disposition follows the doctrine of the mean; the amount virtuous attitudes are dependent on the individual i.e. what is courageous is different for a firefighter compared to an elderly lady.…

    critical thinker

Of the traits listed on pages 25-26, I would have to say that my strongest critical thinking traits are "Reason logically and draw appropriate conclusions from evidence and data" and "Are intellectually honest with themselves, acknowledging what they don't know and recognizing their limitations". These two traits best describe me in my opinion, both for numerous reasons. I often think of myself as an overthinker, whether the issue be minor or major. It is said that your first answer in any situation is the best, and to never second guess yourself. From my standpoint, an answer well thought out is the best and most certain; sort of like math. When one acts on their first opinion or judgement, it is often one of impulse thinking. But an honest analytical person studies all things within their spectrum. I like to analyze everything just to find truth in or behind it, especially if the topic or object is something of interest to me. Also in critical thinking one must be willing and able to accept the truth of not knowing, making it easier to stay open-minded. Personally I do not mind being critiqued, or "set straight", I like to think of it as constructive criticism. The quote is not "Knowing is power", it is "Knowledge is power", therefore "Learning is power"; that is just my interpretation of being stood corrected.…
