According to the Health Resources and Services Administration survey, there are more than 3 million registered nurses (RN) nationwide. The survey also shows that 50.0% of the workforce holds a baccalaureate (BSN) or graduate degree while 36.1% earned an associate degree (ADN) and 13.9% a diploma in nursing (AACN, 2013). The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of curricula design and implementation of nursing student clinical experiences with NCLEX-RN pass rates in nursing education programs in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. The data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential methods. Descriptive techniques were used to summarize the data on the dependent variable of NCLEX-RN pass rates. Descriptive statistics of simple, grouped and cumulative frequency distributions were constructed to summarize the data and understand the characteristics of each nursing program. T-test of independent samples and ANOVA were used to assess group differences. Factor analysis was utilized to reduce the number of variables and to determine which variables and subscales clustered together. Pearson correlation was used to evaluate the relationship of NCLEX-RN overall pass rate with several survey items and factors. A forward multiple regression was conducted to determine clinical program characteristics that best predict overall NCLEX-RN pass rates. Two statistically significant correlations were found. As society’s pushing for a demand in higher education, we are seeing the requirements for nursing increase as well. As most facilities are phasing out the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the Associates degree RN is becoming the entry level of nursing. Many facilities are already requiring a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree for nurses before even considering them for hire. I feel one of the major setbacks in nursing is its lack of educational requirements. Often times the nurse being the primary care giver is the least educated in the patients’ healthcare team. Certified nursing aides have a lot of responsibilities of intimate care with residents/patients. In order to have a job as challenging as a certified nursing aide, the individual must be very special with being compassionate, loving, caring and patient. Being an aide takes time and aides need to have the ability to lift correctly. On top of having many responsibilities of intimacy, the aide must be physically able to do the required care. These duties may be strenuous on the aide’s bodies, and there may even be times where the aide’s bodies are extensively worn out from all the hard work. This kind of physical work may cause some aides to hurt themselves from all the pulling and lifting which can tear and strain on muscles and ligaments.
