Fairy Tale in the Mind of Holden Caufield
My group is the next to the tee and I can’t stop thinking about how I’m going to hit this first shot. I worry about hitting the ball out-of bounds on the first hit and being down strokes on the first hole. The first group finishes hitting and begins to walk off the tee, I watched how they hit and two of them hit in the fairway and the third person hit it in the rough on the right. Then as my group waited to tee off we flipped the tee to see the order of who teed off. The first person that is going to hit is the kid from East Pennsboro, next is the kid from Susquehanna Township then lastly me. As the first group was getting out of view the kid from East Pennsboro got ready to hit, he didn’t have that good of a swing because he had a baseball swing and probably will not be on the fairway. Then he hit and my thoughts were correct he ended up in the woods on the left. I felt his anger and hoped my tee shot will get me off to a good start. The next to tee off is person from Susquehanna Township and he stepped up on the tee, he had a much better swing and had a good stance unlike the first guy. He hit the ball good but it didn’t have that much distance and unlike the first guy went in the fairway.
Then it was finally my turn and as I stepped up the wind died down, now was my time and I teed the ball up quickly. I stood back and looked down the fairway for the different variables on the hole. There was out-of-bounds was far right and there was woods on the left but the hole had a fairly wide fairway. I begin to think of how I plan to hit the ball and I plan on putting a slight draw on the ball to give it topspin so it will roll more. I feel good about my swing and when I felt ready so I stepped up to the ball and pictured my ball in the fairway. Then I brought the club

Holden's desire to be the 'Catcher in the Rye' comes from his realization, near the end of his horrible, nearly sleepless weekend of cigarettes, alcohol, phonies, and freaks, that he isn't ready and doesn't even want to be an adult. He also knows he is different from his sister, Phoebe, that he is no longer a child. He has seen too much reality to still be a child, even though he is only 16 in the story. He doesn't have a home like a child would. He feels like he is someone in between adulthood and childhood. The catcher in the rye, is sort of like Peter Pan, helping children and keeping them safe from falling off the cliff of innocence into adulthood. Holden loves the simple, straightforward and honest world of children, and he hates the adult world of phonies and perverts.…

Have you ever had so much fun, every minute feels like a second? That’s how I felt when I was with my friend Ethan and Caden. We went to Golf n’ Stuff. As we arrived, Mr. Smith, (Ethan’s Dad) registered for us. We had a choice between bumper cars and bowling, or mini golfing. We obviously chose mini golfing because we were at Golf n’ Stuff. We got to choose our clubs and balls: I chose purple, Caden chose green, and Ethan chose red. There was a ball cleaner which was like a new invention to us .It was about three feet with a flap on the top. We just kept putting our ball in and pulling the trigger. Of course the ball got super wet, but we didn’t care. This is really cool, we all thought.…

Late September, I was referred to Eric with the chamber of commerce for volunteer work. I didn’t know what I signed up for, however was surprised by the six-hour volunteer position he assigned me. He offered me a position interacting with guests by watching for “hole in ones”, greeting, directing, serving and guests around the course. I found this volunteer work kind of nerve racking because Id never been on a golf course before and failed the golf portion of gym class in junior high. I still can’t understand the enjoyment of the sport, sorry. I was in charge of hole three, as exciting as watching a hole and talking to strangers sounds, I feel as though I began to appreciate the strategy in the game. If the player got a “hole in one” they won a free trip. I would greet guests and answer any questions they had for me to the best of my knowledge. Most of the golfers were good players with the exception of the younger group that had been sauced up toward the end. My take away from being involved in a golf tournament is to not be in…

This morning I awoke to the view of the morning fog and the christening dew that sits upon the early morning grass. The sound of sprinklers whistling water through the air reminds me that it is almost time for the indescribable battle that is about to take place at the greatest stage on earth. My caddie awoke just after to begin preparing for the great battle that was about to take place throughout each of the four rounds held at the sacred grounds of Augusta National golf club, I had to play each hole as if it were a blank canvas.…
