The first person to try and categorize and systematically describe fallacies was Aristotle.
He managed to identify thirteen different fallacies and divided them into two groups: Informal and Formal. The Informal Fallacy is hard to find because they can only be found and identified when you analyze the content of the argument. The Formal Fallacy is easy to identify because there is a defect to it and when you look at the logical formation of the argument rather than just the statement. In order for the Informal Fallacy to be found the argument in its entirety must be analyzed. The actual content must be found and then you may find the defect. If the argument holds a Formal Fallacy, it will mimic a logical valid argument, even though it is not one. These are found only in deductive arguments with identifiable forms. Both of these types of fallacies will contain a false conclusion which stems from the two premises that will both be true, and the argument is invalid. “It is the broadest federal rule change to come out of the landmark Supreme Court decision in June that struck down the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, and a sign of how quickly the government is moving to treat gay couples in the same way that it does straight couples.”
This is a fallacy that is stemming from a dirty trick. These fallacies attack the group rather than the argument that is at hand. The argument is about gay marriage and whether or not it is legal for those couples to file taxes together. Allowing them to receive the same benefits allotted to any married couple. The Supreme Court made a decision on this stating that the couple will be able to file together and receive any marriage benefits that they may qualify under rules of
“marriage/union”. This being said the couple may then have to file their state taxes differently than that of the federal ones, because just because the Federal Law recognizes the union
