Florence is an immaculate housekeeper, she enjoyed school when she was younger, and she is on the list of mothers to make job-ready at the welfare agency.
Florence is in need of several services immediately to meet short-term and long-term goals. She needs parenting classes as mandated as a condition to having her daughter live with her again. I am working under the assumption Florence has Medicaid based on the fact she receives food stamps, lives in a trailer, and is unemployed. At the mental health agency, such as Bear River Mental Health (BRMH), she would receive the needed mental health assessment/psychological testing. Based on Florence’s report of feeling alone and depressed coupled with the reports about her mother’s illness she would receive at least a depression diagnosis. She could receive individual/group therapy, medication management, and group behavior/skills classes in hopes of decreasing her isolation and increase her toolbox of coping skills. Bear River Mental Health could also have her work with a case manager who can go to her rural home, if she has transportation problems. The case manager could work with Florence on skills development, such as role playing job interviews, to build her confidence and empower her with skills necessary in attaining employment. I would then connect her with the Family Place. Services she could participate in at this agency would be parenting classes, the women’s abuse and trauma group, and to receive vouchers for Somebody’s Attic for clothing to help build her confidence as she seeks employment.
