Beginning College
Beginning college is an exciting time, but it also be a time to face some of your greatest fears. In the story Fangirl written by Rainbow Rowell Cath and Wren begin their college experience at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Cath and Wren both face challenges and fears in college create obstacles that affect their overall experience. The major challenges and fears that Cath and Wren face are Cath isolates herself, Wren quickly develops an alcohol problem, and Cath’s and Wren’s mother leaving is affecting the twin’s mental and physical behavior.

Cath stayed isolated and did not care about the outside world except for her fan fiction story Carry On. Cath stayed in her room writing her story without knowing where the dining room was. Her roommate, Reagan, helped her out by showing her around and to meet others. Cath soon realized her mistakes and although it was not easy finally adjusted to the beginning of college. College is not an easy adjustment for everyone. It could mean a roommate who is the total opposite of you, not knowing what to do with your freedom or being scared to leave your comfort zone. As shown through the story Fangirl, everyone has challenges or fears that they will face sooner or later. Everyone has different ways of showing and dealing with their fears. Some people isolate themselves to stay in their comfort zone, others try to escape by being social. In this situation I am more like Cath. I fear many things as I start college, but I am also very excited about starting college. I am more like Cath because I like staying in my comfort zone. I am better at doing things alone and am not the best at starting conversations. One of my biggest fears, therefore, is finding the right group of friends that I can call that.
