Washington's Farewell Address, which was issued as a public letter in 1796, was and still is one of the most influential documents of our nation. It was also said to be a corner stone to our nations foreign policies. Drafted primarily by Washington himself, with some help from Alexander Hamilton, the address gives advice on the essential need of and importance of national union, the value of the Constitution and the rule of law, the evils of political parties, and the appropriate virtues of a republican people.…

The Book of Kells is thought to be written in Latin around 800 AD by Columbian monks when Jesus was born; this book is astonishingly famous because it contains the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. When you look closely at the book, you notice the papers that were used in 800 AD are not similar to the ones you write on today. In the 800 AD, monks would purchase vellum or calfskin if they wanted to write because the skin was really dense and convenient for them. In addition, the monks needed a tool to write with, so, they would use feathers from a goose because the tips from the feathers are sharp. And, in order to be able to get ink on the calfskin, the feathers tip needed to hold a naturally made ink that came from plants, copper, or fruits. The colours of ink that are seen in…

Hello, I am so honored to speak in front of all the parents, staff and my fellow students today. Wow guys we made it! These past 3 years have been full of so many memories that I know we’ll never forget. Think all the way back to 6th grade we were always the littlest ones and I remember feeling like a fish out of water. We were terrified of getting lost or being late for class, but excited to have a locker to decorate and change classes each period. It doesn’t seem like that was over 2 years ago at all. We came back in 7th grade, much more confident than the year before. We looked down to the new 6th graders, asking "Were we really that short just last year?" And by the end of 7th grade I was shocked that I was officially an 8th grader. 8th grade is defiantly my favorite year. I feel like I have everything under control. But next year is full of changes. We'll have free periods, more homework, electives, and an open campus. The new choices also bring new responsibilities that test us in figuring out how we grow from kids to adults. As we say goodbye on the last day we sit together as Balboa students, we reflect on what has happened the past 3 years, but also look forward to what is coming up in the next 4 years. My advice to future 8th graders is to keep up with your school work and try your absolute best and make lots of good, loyal friends that don’t get you in the bad kind of crowd. And most importantly, have fun! This is the last year you will be the oldest in the school for another 4 years, so enjoy it! I’d like to finish this speech off with this quote : A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.-Ayn Rand…

We have gathered here today to bid farewell to the students of standard 10th. I am indeed honoured to be given this opportunity to represent the students of standard 9th. Just when we start to get comfortable with a person, something comes to alter the recipe. In this context, I would like to mention that for the past few months, the students of standards 9th and 10th have indeed worked very closely together to organise various school activities which has helped us forge close ties of friendship. And now, before we know, its time to say 'Adieu'. The Bible says "To everything there is a reasonand a time to every purpose under heaven"…
