Society today runs on ignorance, with many people that do not have the knowledge of where their food source derives. There are many cases reported every day of people abusing their pets or wild animals, but most cases of animal abuse happen at the factory farm. There are over 139,000 factory farms in the United States. They slaughter over 27 million cows, hogs, and hens every day for our convenience (Food Inc.). Consider yourself in the position of the animal that is being tormented and slaughtered. Current treatment of animals within slaughterhouses is unacceptable because workers beat them, force them to live in poor conditions which causes trauma, and feed them growth hormones that endanger their health. Many animals suffer even before they are killed for food, as the workers abuse them while raising them. “Inside those walls is a different world that obeys different law” (Sclosser). The workers in the factories play by their own rules. They do not care what happens to the animals knowing that they are going to be slaughtered. Videos on the Internet that are posted by undercover reporters expose the truth about how the workers treat the animals. There are many cases that show the workers beat the animals while they are in line for slaughtering. The worst part of it all is when they keep the animals still alive when they kill them. In factory farms the animals are physically abused. “Violently punching young calves in the face, body and slamming them to the ground, and pulling and throwing them by their ears” (Mercy) Animals feel pain as all living creatures do. This is how animals are treated in most Farm Factory:
Animals are often fed antibiotics on a consistent basis. Animals’ bodies are physically altered to prevent them from acting with aggression and anxiety, which are common results of animals living in such extreme confinement. An example of this is debarking, the cutting through bone, cartilage and soft
