The animals are treated cruelly on a factory farm. Some things they do to the animals are, genetically altering them so that they grow faster or so that they produce products faster such as milk or eggs. Sometimes after they kill and animal they will feed that animal to another animal so that, that animal gets more fat for reproducing. Factory …show more content…
farming can also affect us negatively because factory farming sometimes contains up to twenty times the global warming potential. Another affect is when the animal waste is over applied it affects the nitrogen and phosphorus in the water supply, which is bad for us.
The way animals react to small confinement can be pretty bad too.
Some animals can get very stressed out or depressed which can affect their reproduction. Hogs tend to get very aggressive in small spaces and when frustrated they will bite eat others tails to the point where the farmers just cut them off. Some animals tend to suffer from deformities. The deformities are caused when they animals get in fights because of their aggressiveness. When there are concrete floors that are not natural to the animals that can cause them to have skeletal deformities.
As I said before the farmers drug the animals to make the process go faster but in the end it can possibly kill or severely injure the animals. Sometimes in severe cases farmers have to cut of chickens beaks so that when the chickens get in a fight they will not kill each other with their beaks. When the animals are stuck in a stall all day they do not get to experience the outdoors or do normal animal activities. The animals get very stressed and do not produce as well as they would if they did normal animal activities. About 10 billion animals in the world are raised just for their dairy, meat, and eggs a
year.
We can take caution by being careful of what we eat by going to a different grocery store. The reason we could go to a grocery store would be because most likely the grocery store would import goods from a factory farm without even knowing what goes on there. There are other ways that you can avoid buying foods from factory farms. If you don’t want to change your grocery store that is absolutely fine, you can just be extra cautious of what you eat. I would definitely think it is not to buy food from a factory farm because just think of what they do to those poor animals.
