In most television shows they try to make a positive point with parent-child relationships. There are many different types of families with all different types of situations. One type of family is with both a mom and a dad. In Last Man Standing this is that type of family. They have three daughters, one of them is older and out of the house with a kid. The parents are still having some troubles with her. The second oldest daughter isn’t all about the books but is very social and the parents definitely have hard times parenting her. Lastly, their youngest daughter is the dad's favorite. “She is a tomboy and generally has the same interests as Mike (dad), including camping, sports, guns, and the military. (last) As you can see every one of their daughters are different and they have to parent them differently but it makes it easier to have someone to help make these decisions. There are many tv shows where that is not the case. In Hannah Montana, it's a single father with two kids. That’s very different and shows you throughout the show all the hard times and how he struggles to parent two teenagers alone. Also, in Full House, you have a single father raising three girls. Cultural criticism is used in 7 Years because it’s about Lukas’s life and how he thinks it goes in the future. He talks about what he does based on how he was raised. He says “i always had that dream like my daddy before me” meaning he sees what his dad does and it makes him interested in those same things. He acts and feels this way because that’s how he was raised. This shows that him and his father had a pretty good relationship and he wants to be a good father to his kids. This is the appropriate lens to use because this song is all about his culture, how he grew up and the traditions they have. The song 7 Years is very important because it shows he had a good relationship with his parents and wants to have a good relationship with his kids. People should just be more sensitive to people who don’t have a nuclear family. Nuclear families just aren’t very common anymore. This also goes along with the saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” Most of the time no one knows what is really going on at home or how someone’s family is.
