Fattail Scorpion Essay

The Fattail Scorpion is one of the most dangerous species of scorpions. In many places this is known at the man killing scorpion, due to the fact that so many people have died once they have been stung by this scorpion. A description of this scorpion would be they are fairly small with an full grown size of about 4-5 inches. The females are bigger than the males. The tail on this Scorpion is very fat and that is where the name comes from. This particular Scorpion offers a very strong venom. They don’t look very concrete like other species do. Instead, you can somewhat see through them like they are made from plastic for a toy.
The main location for this scorpion is in Africa, they are also very widespread around the Middle East. Found is areas around Algeria, Egypt, India, and Turkey. Like most scorpions, they like it around the dry areas, but they stay in the shade to keep out of the sun. They want to stay out of the sunlight because the sunlight could make them very sensitive.
The behavior of the scorpion. Many people believe this to be one of the most dangerous of all scorpions. Many people actually want them as pets for some odd reason. Saying they want to own one because it’s unique to own something that is so dangerous. The venom of the scorpion is actually illegal in a lot of places. This particular species of scorpion is known to
inhabit brick homes and those with crawlspaces. They can be very hard to eradicate too due to the fact that they don’t seem to be bothered by pesticides.
Diet.
They feed on a variety of different insects with the main course being crickets. In captivity they seem to do very well living on meal worms. They are avid hunters and will seek out prey rather than waiting around hoping it will show up. They are nocturnal so they will more than likely be hunting at night. Due to the powerful venom they can immediately start consuming their prey. The venom has enzymes in it that turns the internal part of the prey into a liquid substances. Scorpions aren’t able to consume anything solid so they have to suck out what they can from the prey once the venom has gone to
work.
The courtship of the mating for the male and female is very complex. It can take several days for them to reach its point. If the female isn’t happy with the efforts she may make him leave. If he doesn’t she will end it by eating him. When mating does occur it will be several months before she gives birth to the young. There can be very few or many born at once. (30 to 50 is the average). They will climb up her legs and cling to her back. That is where they will stay until they get through the first molting period in a few weeks. If they don’t leave when she wants them to she may consume them too.
The scientific name for the fat tail scorpion is Androctonus Crassicuada. The color of this scorpion is reddish brown, and the Arabian one is between black and brown. They have hairs and bristles on the soles of their feet along with their legs. The scorpions seems to be a nocturnal predator, only feeding and hunting at night. The male usually leads the way while at the time to male is much smaller than the female, that would be why the female is able to eat the male if he doesn’t leave like the female would like to at some times. About ¼ of the scorpions in the world have powerful enough venom to kill someone or several people in one sting. The smallest scorpions is about ½ an inch in size, scorpions are very, very adaptable and able to fit to their ecosystem they’re in. There are more than 2,000 species of scorpions in the world. They rely on vibrations their sense of smell most of the time. For the scorpion to reproduce they have to have sperm that fertilizes the eggs, some are able to lay eggs without them having to be fertilized.
