The era of the Great Depression was by far the worst shape the United States had ever been in, both economically and physically. Franklin Roosevelt was elected in 1932 and began to bring relief with his New Deal. In his first 100 days as President, sixteen pieces of legislation were passed by Congress, the most to be passed in a short amount of time. Roosevelt was re-elected twice, and quickly gained the trust of the American people. Many of the New Deal policies helped the United States economy greatly, but some did not. One particularly contradictory act was the Agricultural Adjustment Act, which was later declared unconstitutional by Congress. Many things also stayed very consistent in the New Deal. For example, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and Social Security, since Americans were looking for any help they could get, these acts weren't seen as a detrimental at first. Overall, Roosevelt's New Deal was a success, but it also hit its stumbling points.…

The Great Depression affected America from 1929 to 1940 caused collectively by long-term overproduction, speculation, buying on margin, shaky banking methods, tariffs on international trade. The trigger event, however, that aggravated the impacts of the Great Depression on America's economy was the Wall Street Crash. American citizens lost confidence in Hoover's laissez-faire policies where 100,000 businesses had failed, and American citizens were left to tramp the streets looking for jobs while suffering from a lack of shelter and malnourishment. Consequently, Hoover's antithesis, Franklin D. Roosevelt, was elected in 1932. Roosevelt's morals were greatly influenced by his volunteering experiences in Groton Prep as well as being crippled by polio wherein he had first-hand encounters with the sufferings of ordinary Americans. As he firmly believed that the government should be responsible for both the people and economy, FDR and his "Brain Trust" implemented a series of federal programs in response to the Depression collectively known as the New Deal which had three aims: relief, recovery, and reform.…

Following the Great Depression, President Roosevelt Franklin was elected in 1932. Upon his election to deliver the New Deal, an unprecedented number of reforms addressing the catastrophic effects of the Great Depression, Roosevelt felt it was the federal government’s duty to help the American people weather these bad times. His first duty as president was to declare a four-day bank Holiday, during which time congress drafted the Emergency Banking Bill of 1933, which stabilized the Banking system. This restored faith in the Banking systems for the people. Three months later he signed the Glass-Steagall Act, which created the FDIC, federally insuring deposits. The Civil Conservation Corps was one of the New Deal’s most successful programs. It addressed the pressing problem of unemployment sending millions of men to the Nations’ forests to work. The Works Progress Administration program; Roosevelt’s major work program, would employ 8.5 million Americans to build airports, parks, bridges, etc.…

In addition to their similarities, these men also have numerous differences. Roosevelt was well known for his kind demeanor and his ability to lead the United States during depression and war. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party appealed to the German people during a time of political and economic instability. Hitler worked to ensure that his policies focused on highlighting general and emotional points, as opposed to specific ones that were not special or important to certain groups of people. This brought him closer to his audience, and he gained popularity among the Germans. In the Great Depression, Germany was looking for a leader to stabilize the country and create order and control through all of the disarray. The Nazi Party set their goals to eliminate groups that many Germans didn’t like: “...the Weimar Republic, the Communist Party, and the Social Democrats” (Evans). This gained them support from the German people. Their idea…
The Great Depression was a very scary time in 1932 when nearly 13 million workers had no jobs, no money, and no food. 34 million people would stand in lines all night hoping to get a job and a source of income but most businesses couldn’t hire anyone due to their extremely low income. Farm owners became too poor to own their land so they became tenant farmers and rented the fields. People were in extremely high levels of debt and the wages decreased (entry 6). Due to the lack of money and customers many businesses had to shut down; banks, factories, and steel mills. Eventually Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) was elected as president and he created a new way to overcome the Great Depression called “The New Deal”. The New Deal was mainly a success because of job creation and ending the bank crisis.…
