Objectives of the club were shared with the group and were SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time based). The students were clear about what is expected of them, what it is hoped they will achieve by the end.…
CHILD HUNGER IS OUT OF CONTROL Quindlen has made a wonderful, well-written essay. She had a purpose for writing this essay. Her essay was on child hunger, “WHEN THE AD COUNCIL CONVENED focus groups not long ago to help prepare a series of public service announcements on child hunger.” Quindlen also says that summer has given way to something more difficult.…
Some really effective moments when we worked as a team was when we had to organise the fish and chips and when we had to set up for the quiz night, we all stuck together and set up the hall in under an hour. I think that at the end of the event once we had counted how much we had raised, we all felt proud of ourselves at what we had achieved and this really showed as we were excited to let our guests know how much they had helped us and the charity.…
First, I would like to give my opinion of whether this book was worthwhile at the beginning of this book review. Because I believe this is one of the most moving books written today about the problem of hunger in America. I also believe that this book should be required reading for every "elected official" who has the power to end the needless tragedy of hunger in America. This is a very well-written, well-researched book based on real people with real stories not just about numbers, trends, stats, or theories.…
Most organizations have documented core values, and objectives that ultimately contribute to their mission or cause. These documented or stated values are intended to shape the culture of the organization, and should also serve as a framework for the development of corporate strategy and the development of short and long-term goals. The climate of the organization can result in an unspoken culture which can be in alignment or contrary to the stated intent. The external environmental factors such as market competitors, the state of the economy, new technology and political environment also impact an organizations culture. Organizational culture impacts all facets of an organization and ultimately can impact the ability to accomplish their mission. This paper will examine Feed the Children's current culture, impacts of the identified culture, and the rites and rituals contributing to the overall state of Feed the Children.…

Lisa Esposito addresses the strong negative connection between poverty and the health of the parents and children affected by it. She blames stress-filled homes, unstable nutrition, and toxic environments among other things as the reason low-income families are unable to keep themselves healthy. She uses facts and expert opinions to try to raise awareness and attempt to push people toward better health. Esposito clearly takes the side of those in poverty by constantly repeating they are forced into their unhealthy lifestyles. For example, Esposito points out the paradox of poor people being increasingly hungry, yet statistics show more obesity present in poor people. Her rebuttal is the fact that often times the cheapest food is usually full…
No Kids Hungry is a great organization. Having little or no food is a huge issue in society today. Most children come to school hungry because they do not have enough to eat at home. It is sad that sometimes children only meal is in school. I am glad to hear that this organization provide meals for children outside of school. Not being able to eat a good balance meal can cause health issues and the child will not be able to function on their school work because all they can think about is being hungry. I was also please that No Kids Hungry is making progress in the community level because certain communities need more program and funding than others.…
For those who frightened much to abandon their life, goals, projects and interests in order to save one’s life, say goodbye to righteousness. In “Famine, Affluence, and Morality”, also in “ the life you can save”, Peter Singer tries to show that we human beings have a moral obligation to give far more than we actually do for excessive and tragic situations such as famine and disaster relief. According to singer, Giving, sharing and helping the needy is more than moral happiness and inner satisfaction, it is a moral duty. As he state his argument in three premises, “1, suffering and death from the lack of food, shelter and medical care are bad, (2), if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening,…

The Poverty Clinic by Paul Tough focuses on the relationship between childhood trauma and health. The findings in The Poverty Clinic are consistent with the theories in the ‘health onion.’ Monisha Sullivan’s health issue derives from a quantum of factors. Factors of which include lifestyle, outside influences, situational factors, community and environment factors. All of which falls under the frameworks of the ‘health onion.’ Health issues are no longer reliant only on the biological processes, but also on what influences our lives and how we live it.…

Many people go to the food pantries in Indiana, which causes very long lines at the food pantry. All of the food pantries in Northwest Indiana have at least 600 people that visit every month. But, some of the food pantries serve more people that others. This is due to the fact that the town might not have a great deal of poverty in their area. But, it might also be that there is not a very big population in the town. The food pantries that serve a lot of people have very long lines so it takes longer for everyone to inherit what they need and it also uses more food and other resources for the people. So, a new schedule should be made for the opening times and dates of the food pantry so that everyone that needs to come can come, and so that…

As a group, we chose four different perspectives to explore the issues relating to children and hunger. As you read this paper, it will outline the various factors dramatically impacting hunger, in addition to the food insecurity challenges in the United States. For most parents, living the American dream is being able to provide the basic human needs for their children such as food, clothing, and proper education. According to U.S Department of Agriculture (2014), “49 million people in America lived in household struggling to find enough food to eat.” Unfortunately, millions of children struggle to sleep at night because they lack food. In addition, a person’s race, class and the environment where one lives often places restrictions on the…
