Feed Reaction Paper
I believe that the author's style was very unique. First of all, the structure of the novel was very weird. What I mean is that almost half of all the pages in the novel were around 1-2 pages long while the other half were 6-10 pages long. There were also Feed chatters which was what was going on in the feed. Second of all, the author's word choice left me intrigued. I have never heard of words such as youch and girlf in my entire life and it surprises me that the author would use slang like this in a novel. The word choice was similar to stuff most teenagers today would say. The word choice was very unprofessional. The point of view of Feed was first person and was told through Titus’s eyes. The actions of Titus is typical teenager attitude and throughout the …show more content…
Knowing that the novel will be about teenagers, I expected a lot of swearing and gossip between characters throughout the story. Feed contained just that. Every single chapter had swear words in them and there was a lot of gossip going on between Calista, Loga, and Quendy. Just like the word choice, the dialogue was also very simple. Most of the characters referred to each other as “unit” or “unette” and there were very little “deep” conversations between the characters. The only time the dialogue was actually challenging to understand was when Violet’s dad met Titus and they started to have a conversation. In that scene, it was clear that her father had very good grammar and sentence structure. Violet and Titus’s tone started to change as their relationship became worse. Both characters would yell at each other at the top of their lungs and a lot of cursing happened. The authors tone throughout the novel was mainly angry, sympathetic, or happy. Throughout the first half of the novel, the author's tone was happ. During this time, Violet and Titus’s relationship was healthy and the tension between Violet and the gang wasn't that

The word choice, sentence structure, figurative language, and sentence arrangement the author {Kimberly Brubaker Bradley} uses, makes the text journalistic or informal like. When the characters talk, they don't speak formally or with really bad grammar. They talk like normal people would do. Kimberly writes with little figurative language. When she does though, it is relatable to the text, and easy for younger readers to understand.…

The way a book reads in terms of words and language used is readability. When an author uses uncommon or unknown words throughout, it affects the way the book reads. When I am constantly looking up words that are unfamiliar or I cannot determine from the context, I lose interest. The constant stopping distracts from how it reads. There were a few words I did not know such as chanterelle and surfeit. Chanterelle turns out to be a species of mushroom, which I was able to determine from the context of the paragraph. I had to stop to look up surfeit, which means an intemperate or immoderate indulgence in something. Overall chapters 15 through 17 have great readability.…

The diction used throughout the book was only moderately challenging but not difficult to read. Although I had to look for the definitions of some words, it did not affect my enjoyment of the book. The author used creative language and imagery: “By 7:00 the panoply of colors on the horizon shrunk to a bitter orange line on the western horizon, as if furnace fires had been banked beyond the edge of the world.” (King 523) Stephen King creates a beautiful image in the reader’s mind.…

The diction in this book is understandable and at the same time is informal. You would notice that the conversation between the characters is rudimentary and that the first time you read it you would understand what they are trying to say. Sometimes the language that the characters get to used was very rudeness, shrewdness and crudeness. The perfect example is Lennie because of his mental problems he talks in an informal way like a little child which cause sympathy to the readers. Also, the characters talk informal because they have been raise in a ranch, and they didn’t have enough money to get a good education. But they have friendship, kindness and they work hard to try to accomplish their goals.…

I would lose so much meaning if I did not know that “Diosito” meant god. Using two different languages in a dialogue can give the audience a hard time understanding the content of the message, but it is also more convincing to the audience because it shows the women’s struggle of speaking English. Personally, I took a longer time reading it because I had to look up the words. If I did not have a glossary of terms, I would not be able to translate and fully understand. Once I understand the words, I had to paraphrase the sentence and make meaning of it. There was also some repeating words which I remembered, so it was easier for me to evaluate and move on to the next line. When reading, I was more critical because I wanted to be open minded so I can understand the message better. I was biased towards the characters I disliked, like Carmen. Then I realized that she did not know better, she was only the product of her culture looking out for her daughters. When you do not understand a message you tend to filter it out, I took my time and was patient and did not filter out the…

Sammy demonstrates through his words that he is an excellent observer. When Sammy observes and says, “There was this chunky one, with the two piece – it was bright green and the seams on the bra well still sharp and her belly was still pretty pale so I guessed she just got it” (753) it is clear that he works hard to perceive every single details of the girls. Sammy spends time describing the others two girls detailed, and every single movement they make around the store. Then he describes the people’s reactions cause by the girls’ commotion. Sammy’s observational skill gives a better image to the reader of the story. His observable behavior tells his desire to understand the facts about the world around him. Moreover, the way he observers and talk about the girls give clues of his transitions from a teenage to an adult. When Sammy says, “ –bathing suit with a little nubble all over it and, what got me, the straps were down.” (753) “She turned so slow it made my stomach rub” (754) it demonstrates that he does not have much experience dealing girls. He gets very excited for little things that for a grown man may not affect as much as it does to Sammy.…
