It is important that everyone in the group understand their role and responsibilities to the group. Everyone must contribute to discussions and meetings, and there should not be any silent members. To promote group discussion, you can start by going around the group and allowing each person to speak. This will allow each person a chance to be involved in the discussion and will spark topics of discussion.…
In this unit, I stress small group and large group discussion. I feel that learning is a social process and that by actively engaging students in the learning process rather than allowing them to be passive recipients of content, we are promoting…
Please work in groups of 3-5 students (submit 1 discussion per group). You may select your own groups. Please contact me if you are having difficulty finding a group.…
In the first stage of group development, termed dependency and inclusion, team members are dependent upon the designated leader to provide a sense of belonging and to create an environment where members feel safe enough to suggest new ideas (Wheelan, 2013). The overall goal of stage one group development is the ability to create a safe and inclusive environment for all members as some may experience certain behavioral characteristics associated with feelings of insecurity and a need to feel included in the group. Stage one members may feel apprehensive about sharing their ideas until they feel that the environment is safe to share and that their input is valued (Wheelan, 2013).…
The Willie Lynch Letter gives modern day people insight on how the slave masters took control of the minds of the slaves they had and used this to their advantage. Even though Willie Lynch had slaves in the West Indies his ways were used throughout the Americas where slaves were held, and it worked. The effect of these letters are still evident in the African- American community today. There are strain relationship between black people with different complexions, hair textures, and many other aspects that can be used to keep up apart as a race. It is really sad to think about the horrid effects it had on our community years later and to ponder on how would we, as a race, would treat one another, now, if Willie Lynch’s tactics were never put…
Why are you interested in the co-chair position? What specific skills or experiences would help you be an effective leader in VenUe?…
There are aspects of how this group functions that work really well, while there are aspects that I would change. Each board member is sent an agenda the day before the meeting, and then given a hard copy at the beginning of the meeting. Next to each section is an amount of time that will be allotted to each item. I think this helps the group stay on track. Given the agenda for the meeting I attended, the meeting should have gone a little longer than an…
I do feel that the group was very productive within the discussions. The way in which the discussions were organized I believe helped to foster this…
Supportive group: This group is focused on therapeutic communication, support and interactions among people. This group supports other members in the group by encouraging them to stop drinking. Therapeutic communication and interaction is very important in this group because you have to motivate the group in positive way by giving examples and talking to the person. (Townsend, 2012)…
This project proposal aims to seek funding of $50,000 to expand the existing Prostate Cancer Support Group by employing a part-time registered Liaison Nurse and an Administration Officer to co-ordinate the group and allow them to develop the awareness of prostate cancer in the community. The funds will allow for the development of a standardised community education package that can be accessed by community groups, GP's, retirement homes, the library and other interested groups and individuals. The current support group is run by volunteers who meet monthly and feel they need some professional guidance to expand the group. It is the intention of this project to increase those meetings to fortnightly with the support of speakers and other health care professionals. The aim of this is to improve the quality of life and support provided to people living with cancer and their families.…
Support groups bring together people facing similar issues, whether that's illness, relationship problems or major life changes. Members of support groups often share experiences and advice. It can be helpful just getting to talk with other people who are in the same boat. While not everyone wants or needs support beyond that offered by family and friends, you may find it helpful to turn to others outside your immediate circle. A support group can help you cope better and feel less isolated as you make connections with others facing similar challenges. A support group shouldn't replace your standard medical care, but it can be a valuable resource to help you cope (Staff, 2013).…
Group communication - this is an open discussion between at least 3 individuals, this will also be a face to face discussion however this can also be done via online chat rooms or email. For example when people go to a rehab place for help to get over a drinking problem or a drug problem, they have to sit down in groups and express their feelings and explain the reasons for being there.…
Group leader identified a common theme (managing anger) that a few members of the group wanted to explore. I think it encouraged the universality and similarity, as evidenced by members’ comments on how their stories and struggles are alike. Altruism, another therapeutic factor, was evident in this session, when members showed genuine concerns for each other, and also provided constructive feedback, supportive comments, and suggestions how to deal with frustrating situations and anger. The members who shared their stories seemed emotional and upset by their inability to manage their emotions, especially in their relationships. They also seemed comfortable sharing their feelings, without the fear of being judged or ridiculed, which is an indicator of higher level of cohesiveness and trust among members.…
patterns of group behaviour in order to interact and communicate well in the various group situations that they experience. Understanding how groups form and then develop is an important part of this.…
I really enjoyed reading your post relating to your strengths as a future school counselor leader and areas that you feel need development. I feel that we would work well on an advisory board as co-leaders. We have similar leadership qualities that would compliment each other well. Other strengths that you would bring to the co-leader relationship include adaptability and being inspiring. Being adaptable is a quality that I am working on, however, I could bring advocating and communication skills to our leadership team (Dollarhide & Saginak, 2012). These skills combined along with our other strong skills would help to achieve numerous tasks within a school setting. Ways in which we could work together include collaborating on…
