After reading the first section of the book, where the setting is the shire, I noticed that it felt expansive but once Gandalf came and opened the door to the scale of the outside world, it felt jarring and I referred back to the map. The shire is very small in comparison to the rest of the world, contrasting the previous feeling I had where it felt large. Frodo waited years upon years before beginning his journey, instead of just jumping right to the travels he goes into a bit more detail about Sam and Frodo and who he is. This allowed for the reading to make connections far more organically. Another example is, Gandalf and Frodo were in the house, Gandalf had mentioned he was off to learn more about what is happening and that he would catch up to Frodo or send word. The important part of this is that he may have to send word, the word is large enough that he may not be able to travel fast enough himself, similar to the mail system we have implemented today in life, we can make subconscious connections to these reasons further connecting us into the
