Female Sex Offenders Essay

In a modern society it is utterly important to protect our future; thus, insure that our civilization may compete in a global environment. One of the most important investments we can make is to invest in our children. Children of sound mind and body will be vital to the future prosperity of the United States; however, there is an alarming trend that threatens all of society. That threat is the growing occurrence of Female Sex Offenders. Many times, when a child reports that he/she has been victimized by a female, that claim is either not believed, or it is perceived as not a big deal.(Center for Sex Offender Management; 2007) Traditionally, it has been assumed that sex crimes are perpetrated by males. The stigma of being victimized by a female is a factor to under reporting. Especially if the victim is a male. There are not many male victims that will come out and say openly that they were victimized by a women. The embarrassment would be tremendous for many males. How I attend to overcome this obstacle is by interviewing therapists specializing in sex addiction, and therapist specializing in treating victims of sex crimes. These specialist may be able to enlighten me on how prevalent this issue is. Since patients of therapists tend to be more open while in treatment, the patient probably would be more open to that therapists and tell him or her the extent in which they were abused. This may also be true for the perpetrators. They too will be more likely to give information to their therapist than anyone else. I should note that I am aware of the Patient/ Client anonymity, but since I am not looking at any particular individual I will not need anyone’s name;thus, the patients privacy is not violated, and I am able to collect the data that I need.
