Being an advocate for women's rights and fighting for equality are two factors that if they apply, you may consider yourself a feminist. Third wave feminism is fighting for causes that may deny or hinder your privilege, whether you are aware or unaware. If that term could apply to you, you may want to reconsider. Woman wanting to go out and get jobs was a gigantic step forward, yet only one major problem. It was primarily an issue for White privileged women, Many women of other cultures had been doing those positions for years. (Return Of The kings, 8167) In it’s history, feminism has been a form of woman gathering in a movement to help put an end to mutual suffrage among themselves. Equality was the original goal of feminism, yet third wave feminism has turned into reverse sexism. It’s overall unacceptable for men to speak about women in a similar sense that women speak of men. Reverse sexism is not as public as sexism yet it exists in the same way. The wage gap is an issue, yet men are being overlooked for female designated positions. “In 92 percent of custody cases, women receive custody of children in divorce and illegitimacy, and men in only 4 percent of cases”, “Men are given sentences that are 63 percent higher than women’s sentencing for the same crimes.” (nscurrent.nova) Sexism towards men in the legal system is an open and serious issue. If you brought it up to a third wave feminist they would most likely be able to tell you at least double the arguments about why they shouldn’t have to wear a shirt than arguments about the thousands of amazing fathers who can’t see their children because of their gender.
