There's absolutely nothing wrong with children wanting to be feminine and buy princess dress up clothes, toys etc. However, many of the princesses are treated like objects and their whole character plot is based around finding a Prince to marry and living 'Happily ever after'. They give little girls unrealistic expectations of looks, as they are drawn very unrealistically, therefore, this is an awful message to send to young girls on body image and loving yourself.

There is no dispute over the fact that Disney have had their fair share of dodgy female 'role models', with the likes of Snow White's character cleaning and washing for the majority of the movie. Although Disney films are becoming more and more socially and politically correct, its still not ideal.
Lets take a minute to think about the actual plot behind 'The Little Mermaid'. Looking through the spirited, happy songs, the plot is about a women who literally becomes a mute to make herself more available to a random man. Disney have more recently taken a step in the right direction to cease giving the female protagonists damsel in distress type roles. Although they're not quite there yet, Frozen has unquestionably aided the gender politics within the franchise to become a lot more equal amongst the characters.
