Fear Destroying Freedom America a country known for its government built on freedoms. But what if there’s a way that the government can get the people to willingly give up their freedoms? The always-changing world we live in is using and creating fears in the people to slowly, quietly, and willingly take some of our valuable freedoms. In Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury there is a perfect example. The Mechanical Hound is what symbolizes fear. The main character Guy Montag lives in a community where you cannot read, in fact they burn books and Guy is a fireman. And they just happen to be the book burners. As you read the book you connect the Hound with fear. In one instance the Guy is near the hound and at this point you know Guy has books in his house. The way the scene plays out guy has a fear of the hound and the way it watches him. This is how it is for the whole community. They fear the hound because he can get your scent and case you forever. Because of the fear that has been instilled in the people in this book most people don’t break the law. They don’t have books and they don’t keep books, they are more like robots. The way the community has been trained they don’t think for themselves. It’s a way for the government or whoever is in charge to keep everyone in line. You just have to put something in their way that they fear and they won’t step off the path you want them to
