In my classroom I respond quickly and calmly when children are having a disagreement, children tend to look too the teacher to help solve the disagreement. Responding quickly also help children from hurting other. (For example; John and Bob were playing car, at the block center, John wanted the car that Bob had bob would let John see the car so John took the car from Bob and hit him. I went over to John and said your friend is sad because you hit him and took his car, we do not treat our friends like that we have too learn too share and keep our hand by our side, and do you remember the book we read about hitting our friends and how that makes they sad. Also John you must learn too use you words “my turn please”.…
On a day to day basis within a school building, there are a countless number rumors spread among peers or groups of people, sometimes in cliques. Therefore, there is often to be drama between two people or multiple people if the spreading of certain rumors reaches the wrong person. False accusations can be spread like a raging wildfire throughout schools, and can end up in confrontations between opposing forces of people. Sometimes these confrontations are from true allegations, but however, often people fight over trivial matters that could have also quite easily averted. Drama within schools is just another example of allegations that can ultimately culminate in unnecessary or unwanted…

In reference to the movie “Bully” my reaction on Ms. Lockwood and how she handled the various bullying situations in the school had me gasp. She tries to she dresses down an obviously upset kid by negotiating a handshake between the bully and his reluctant victim by saying “You’re just like him. Ms. Lockwood also downplays the possibility that a student is being bullied while meeting with Libby’s parents. She tries to empathize with Alex’s family by showing them pictures of her granddaughter and saying, “See my baby? HUH?”.…
School is a place where students go to learn. Every student should have the opportunity to develop problem solving skills in a non-violent environment. But, in society today, violence in schools has progressed from bloody noses to bloody gunshot wounds. Our youth is being deprived of their innocence by this violence. Our youth’s peace is being taken. Children watching children die. Parents losing their children to this violence. Unfortunately,…
Root cause interventions are intended to find, understand and directly address the problems that cause school violence (Aronson, 2000, p. 10, 70). Much of what Aronson describes around root-cause interventions include school-wide activities that increase students’ emotional intelligence, accepting the consequences of one’s behavior, and creating empathy through cooperative activities while in school. Interventions that include these three concepts can assist with helping students deal with decreasing school violence. Aronson discusses the importance of an individual being able to understand, regulate their emotions. In turn, being able to accept the consequences of one’s behavior. Aronson (p. 109) describes how schools can better assist students with further understanding and self-regulating their feelings when students can co-create agreements around acceptable behaviors and the consequences that exist if the agreements are broken. This process can assist with students’ learning that conflict resolution is an important process of developing emotional intelligence and empathy toward their peers. Finally, the cooperative classroom structure, the jigsaw method, was the intervention strategy Aronson discussed at length. The jigsaw activity is a process where research is done by way of group work. There is a heterogeneous group, which serves as the initial group, and there is the homogeneous group of experts.…

Children need to resolve their conflicts as it is a good life skill for them to learn. In order for them to do this, adults should sometimes allow children to argue and squabble, without resorting to aggression or deliberately hurting feelings. Children that learn how to resolve conflict become more confident and less likely to become compliment or victims.…
When looking at ways to address the problem of bullying, one must start with a definition of the problem and prevention techniques. Bullying is either physical or social, and prevention occurs from early intervention involving meditation, conflict resolution, assertiveness training, and frequent and repetitive instruction (Levine & Tamburrino, 2014, p. 276). Training in martial arts encourages students in all of these critical areas. Specifically, a typical class will begin and end with meditation, followed by rote calisthenics, and repetition of basic blocking and punching techniques. The daily reiteration of these elementary points provides a foundation for the prevention of bullying. By receiving repetitive instruction, the student’s mind is trained to behave in a way that is not reactive, yet assertive. Therefore, the bully’s victim becomes more confident in preventing the bullying, yet remains in a present state of mind enough to resolve the conflict peacefully. On the other hand, because students are placed together and working towards a common goal, differences are minimized, which would naturally remove the origin of bullying, further preventing the…
Children spend most of their active time of the day in schools and most of the incidents happens on school grounds, in dining halls or in school toilets/ changing rooms during break times or lunch times. Schools play vital role in stopping harassment and bullying. All schools have policies in place to deal with bullying and poor behavior which state acceptable behavior and are clear to parents, pupils and staff so that, when incidents do occur, they are dealt with quickly.…
Effective conflict resolution can make the difference between positive and negative outcomes. An issue at school is there is a large population of students who arrived after long bus rides without breakfast, which tended arrive at school ready to fight. The school identified 10 minutes at the start of the day to give these students a healthy snack, and worked with teachers to pull students who were not ready for school before they became disruptive. After food and a little counseling, students entered their classrooms in a better frame of mind and body to participate.…
There was an incident at Edward T. Steel Elementary school and there were not any school police on hand to defuse this incident. Early one morning a few weeks ago during the opening recess at the elementary school a parent entered the building with her two children in tow harassing another student from the school. They walked through the halls the mother shouting at the little girl they were targeting and a few moments later by the main office a fight broke out between the daughter of the mother who took her into the school and the girl being harassed. The whole time this is going on not one person in the office came out to break up the fight. The brawl got out of hand really quickly when the mother began pulling the girls hair while the brother of the girl whose mother brought them in there hit the little girl in the face with a rock. It was total chaos in the building none of the kids would go to class and when the principle finally arrived to break up the fight the girl that was harassed had visible bruises on her face. When her mother arrived it was even worst because by then they had the mother and her 2 children locked in a room. The mother of the girl who was attacked was furious. She demanded answer, and honestly she deserved answers. The only answer that the school could give her was that the school only has a cop once a week and that today was not the day they were scheduled to be there on this particular day. The Philadelphia police did show up to defuse the situation, yet the result from this incident is now that no parents are allowed in the building until 9:30 a.m. which means that the students enter the building through a back door. Which has several parents upset because people have to send their children in pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade into the school and pray that they make it to class safely. The whole purpose of me stating this is…
Violence in schools is a big problem and comes in many different forms. In Nancy Day’s book, Violence in Schools: Learning in Fear, she talks about why students don’t always feel that they are in a safe environment. Statistics show that a school crime is committed every six seconds. That is six hundred crimes every hour, and of all the crimes in the United States, about eleven percent are crimes in school. In a school poll, about sixteen percent of the students had said they have been in a physical…
Schools need to be safe for kids to learn. 160,000 kids skip schools because of the constant fear of being bullied. If they fear about being bullied then it is not safe. About 30% of the student are either the victim or bully, or both. 77% of kids are bullied verbally and mentally abused. Out of the 77%, 14% suffer depression and sieve abuse. About 64.5% reported that they have been bullied twice a year, 18.5% have reported bullying incidents twice a month. Without punishments schools won’t be safe to learn because bullies get away with…
