Assignment 1 1) Why is it important to for a child to be involved in a decision making?
It is important for a child to be involved in decision making as it helps to build their self-esteem and helps contribute to their emotional well-being. This will also help build a stronger relationship with the children and will also become increasingly important with older children. 2) Explain why sometimes children need to be allowed to resolve their conflicts.
Children need to resolve their conflicts as it is a good life skill for them to learn. In order for them to do this, adults should sometimes allow children to argue and squabble, without resorting to aggression or deliberately hurting feelings. Children that learn how to resolve conflict become more confident and less likely to become compliment or victims. 3) Give an example of when an adult might need to intervene in a conflict between children.
An example would be if a toddler who is snatching a toy from another child does not have the understanding of the upset caused and so distraction is the best technique. However it will depend on the level of understanding of the child. 4) Why is it important for babies to have a key worker?
Babies need to from an attachment or special bond with an early years worker in order to compensate for the absence of their parents. In some nurseries that care for babies, a ‘key worker’ system is used. They are responsible for building a responsive relationship with the baby. 5) What is the data protection act?
The data protection act is a piece of legislation that is designed to prevent confidential and personal information from being passed on without a person’s consent. This Act originally applied only to information that was stored on computers. Under the act, organisations that collect and store information must register with the data protection act, anyone processing information must also comply with the eight enforceable principles of practice. 6)
