Filial Piety Compare and Contrast Essay
China has revised a law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Elderly People. A
clause now stipulates : “ Family members living apart from the elderly should frequently visit or send greetings to the elderly people.” ( The New York Times Yu Hua. ) Filial Piety is a virtue of respect for one's parents and ancestors in Confucian philosophy. I have read two articles that talk about Filial Piety. Both articles are similar in some ways but, they are also very different.
Now that Filial Piety was a law , people had suddenly began realizing that they have all be
breaking a law. In the article When Filial Piety Is the Law, written by Yu Hua , he talks about the effects on having Filial Piety as a law. I noticed some loaded language in this article, he used
Emotional Appeal to persuade the audience of the effects of Filial Piety. He stated a true story which said that a father began to worry about his son because he had no contact with him after the son went to college. The father became very anxious , and finally he had turned to the media for help. The whole article talks negatively on the outcome of Filial Piety.
Article number two wasn’t talking about the good things of Filial Piety , but the examples of it .
This article is called “The Best Example of Filial Piety“ , published by China Daily. This law means that parents have to respect their parents and grandparents. The example from the article is that a twentysix year old man pushed his physically disabled mother from beijing to
