Film Analysis: We Were Soldiers
The Title We all like to take a time out and sit down with our loved ones, and watch a heart touching movie every once in a while. What we don't do is actually take time to really focus and understand completely what the point of the movie is or what it is trying to get across to the audience. I was able to take time and sit down, and enjoy and evaluate the movie, "We Were Soldiers." I was able to come to the conclusion that it is a very accurate movie, give or take a few facts. The quality of the cinematography is of great value. The film was indeed satisfying. The movie was released in 2002. It was one of the most seen movies of that year. It won the ASCAP award and was nominated for three different awards. To be nominated is a privilege in itself. That means it was good enough to win but there was another that was superior …show more content…

The mood of this motion picture, including the heavy sense of loss when a soldier is down, is set by the music also. The producers uses familiar techniques, such as deep shots and light techniques in addition to also set the mood. I ended up picking up this film by process of elimination, overall I am happy with the outcome. It was a very heartfelt movie, and I really enjoyed it. Writing the paper about the movie….not so heart touching J. It made me feel like more people should care about our country and its well being, and that we should really value our lives and our freedom much more. The tragic truth is, most of us will never know how war is like, unless we were there. This film gives is the closest reality possible, without leaving the soil of the USA. I would most identify myself with Mel Gibson's character Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore. He plays the leader in battle, similar to a father of every single soldier he was leading. I identify myself with him mainly because I'm so sexy and attractive like him

Sexual Assault was not a well-established topic until the 1970’s when victims of assault started to come forward with their stories. The media played a huge part in reliving the victim’s stories and drawing forth the emotions and empathy of the public. It also played a fragment in the victim shaming and blaming because most did not believe that a survivor of sexual assault was telling the complete truth of their assault. The most well established part of mass media that tells the victim/survivor’s story in a more empowering way is movies.…

The United States Civil War was fought between the states remaining loyal to the Union (predominately states from the North) and those wishing to secede, forming a separate nation, the Confederate States of America (made up of the southern states). One of the deadliest battles of the war was the Battle of Gettysburg. The battle lasted from July 1, 1863 until July 3,1863. This battle is recognized as the deadliest battle to take place on U.S. soil. In 2011, the History Channel made a documentary about the Battle of Gettysburg entitled, Gettysburg. This documentary was produced by Mary Lisio, Ben Fox, Christopher Cowden, Vlokkie Gordon, and David Wicht. It was written by Richard Bedser and Ed Fields; directed by Adrian Moat; narrated by Sam Rockwell, who also starred. Other stars were Anton Blake, Josh Artis, Greg Berg, and Stephen Jennings. The film discussed each day of…

One thing the movie tries to teach us is the struggle to come to one’s sexuality, Sometimes in life one’s sexuality is harder than we think. In the movie, “The History Boys”, the film showcases this reality in two different viewpoints. The first viewpoint would be through the perspective of a teenage boy. The teenage boy, Posner, exemplifies this quality by simply living in a world of social awkwardness while theoretically becoming a man. The second viewpoint would be through the perspective of an older man. In the story, two older men named Hector and Irwin reproduce this lesson by both repressing their desires due to social norms. One represses himself by touching inappropriately boys, while the other stays in silent. Both of these men…

Many elements made this an entertaining film. For instance, the visual elements such as the battlefield’s special effects. Also the romance, the faith, the hope, the honor, and the triumph made this a captivating film. This film had a lot of criticism, but people need to face the fact that this is not a historical documentary, and that it is just entertainment. Yes the film’s setting is in the past, yes the film is about the Revolutionary War, and yes it deals with history, but that does not automatically make it a documentary. I would definitely recommend this to another student.…

Tone and mood is a crucial part to the story. This is a story of war and you can't sound like a pansy telling it. It needs to be heart stopping and hardcore but, at the same time have parts that are subtle and calming. Liam O' Flaherty acquired this thought out the story by the proper use of tone and mood.…

    Letters Home from Vietnam

The powerful emotions triggered through watching this film can be acknowledged without question. What I found the most interesting was the use of real news footage from that time period that aired on major news networks, swaying people’s opinions about our justification for being in Vietnam. Being able to view that gave me a 1st hand look into soldiers’ opinions of the war as well as protests and how they differed then. The actors reading the leaders with pure emotion and feeling in order to accurately portray how much these soldiers put into these letters was remarkable because I felt as though I was experiencing that time period as if it were real and the soldiers were scrambling to write as I watched on. The stories they depicted throughout their words definitely provided for a flurry of reactions. I wanted to be happy for those men honored for combat, living through the horrors of hell, and seeing the relief on their faces when being honorably discharged and sent home. I was equally and oppositely somber, however, for those men’s lives stolen in combat, for those permanently crippled and bitter, to hear of the unspeakable horrors awaiting prisoners of war, as well as letters from optimistic soldiers killed in action shortly after. Another thing I found effectively executed by this film was the specific numbers given. They showed the variation in the number of soldiers deployed to Vietnam over the course of the war, as well as the rising KIA numbers and wounded in combat. A gruesome part of this war as well was the thick jungle that the soldiers had to navigate through blindly until ambushed by the Vietcong, and I thought the film did an excellent job of revealing that to the public. One of the most powerful moments of the film was when a soldier, grieving over his superior officer exclaimed that “he’ll be given a silver star, and somehow that is supposed to suffice for his life being…

    Platoon Movie Analysis

I believe that every one thinking about joining the military should definitely consider watching the film Platoon for multiple reasons. The first reason is that at the beginning of the movie Taylor walks by body bags and they say “is that what I think it is” that shows him how real of a situation he is in. A life or death situation. The movie also shows characters having major psychological problems when going through and after the war. The soldiers thought it was okay that they were going to rape a female. Their minds were screwed up from the war to tell them whats right and wrong. Another realization of the movie is when the Junior was supposed to keep watch and Taylor woke up noticing the enemy getting closer and this just shows how you…

I really enjoyed this documentary because it was like no other I have ever watched. This documentary highlights the struggles of soldiers returning to civil society after going to war. We were able to see the hardships of a soldier trying to return to his old life even though he was permanently scarred, both physically and mentally. As we discussed in class, we are able to see that not only are the soldiers affected by the war, but also their family and those closes to them. In the film, the wife is the one who is directly affected by her husband going off to war. I admire her strength as she committed herself to the physical well-being of her husband, but that was taking a toll on her as well. She seemed numb to her husband’s mistreatment and I can only imagine how emotionally overwhelmed she felt. I feel that the drugs the soldier had to take due to his injury added to his mental instability. From personal experience, I do know the effects of strong pain medication. They themselves have their own side effects. Now add years of trauma and pain from the battlefield. This is why the soldier’s behavior did not surprise me. Any person would react in the same way. It is sad to know that many of these young men who have returned from the war are not being helped in the ways that they should be and I wish there were more programs focused on helping our country’s…

I am surprised at how easily the citizens back at home were impressed of having some soldiers raise some flag. This really showed the difference between them and us. We Japanese believe that pureness is achieved through hardships, therefore putting up a flag on a battlefield is really no big deal. If they won the war completely at that point in time, then that would seem more appropriate to be celebrated, yet one flag was made into a huge deal. Not only that, I was surprised at how the people were too lax to investigate in who were present in the picture taken. They just randomly claimed a soldier to be present in the picture when he and the other soldiers blatantly claimed he was not present. There really is a limit to not even honor the right people and to only use whatever is convenient for them. This why I felt like I could also sympathize with how the soldiers felt when the person in charge of publicity said he did not care about who actually was in the picture. They did not properly honor the soldiers that died in the picture or care about what the soldiers went through. These citizens were so oblivious to their own soldiers’ feelings and forcing the role of heroes onto the soldiers. Not only that, I really do not understand the white people’s need to make everything so extravagant. We Japanese will be fine with just being able to serve our leader in order to be help purify the world. On the other hand, the white people are holding reenactments, making speeches to buy bonds, and traveling across the country just to promote themselves as heroes. The citizens are the real Onis in this film literally sucking out the life force of the soldiers and feeding onto their own delusional fantasies of how great their country is. The soldiers seem more like the victims of the war as it really showed that they were…

The happiest day of my life is when my brother came back to the states from Afghanistan. On that day he called us it was a Friday morning before school started. He told me that he would come and see us next weekend so he can spend time with his wife. So the day goes on school gets out me and my sister Merissa goes home to do our chores so we can stay with our friend. When we get finished we walk to Amanda’s house and hang with her for a little bit. About four thirty we walk to our house to get some money so that we can go to the movies. As were walking we see a man dressed in a uniform and a dressed up woman creeping up to our door. I said oh my goodness Merissa is that Charlie and Sterling. The videography of the film was too shaky and some parts are blurry. This is actually effective for me as for the fact that it is a documentary and it made me feel like I am in the real setting of the event. Another element is the actors in the film. They portrayed their roles truly and they were really convincing which made the film so sympathetic and melancholic. The songs used in the later part of the film also added to the mood.…
