THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Imagine that your favorite foreign cartoon was dubbed in Tagalog or
“Tagalized” sounds funny right? But, why do large networks like ABSCBN,
GMA and TV5 continue to air cartoons that are dubbed, does it have something to do with patriotism and teaches Filipino children to develop love for Filipino culture, heritage and language?
English is used in education, religious affairs, print, broadcast media, and business, though the people who use it as a second language far outnumber those who speak it as a first language
Still, for highly technical subjects such as
nursing, medicine, computing, and calculus, English is the preferred medium for textbooks, communication, etc. Very few would prefer highly technical books in the vernacular Movies and TV programs in English are not dubbed. Background of the Study
The popularity of Tagalized cartoons became mainstream. Like, every morning when you switch your TV on local channels, you could watch foreign cartoons that are dubbed in Tagalog. In ABSCBN you can hear Nickelodeon

shows like Dora The Explorer, SpongebobSquarepants and The Backyardigans were dubbed in Tagalog.
This study is about knowing the reasons why Tagalized cartoons are now mainstream, and its importance, if it really helps to promote Filipino culture, all local networks will be encouraged to air Tagalized cartoons or does it help
Filipino children to fully understand what the episode is all about because
Tagalog is our national language and it will be easier for children to understand what the show is all about.
