RE: Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Fall 2013: Personal Difficulties & Plan for Academic Success

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to appeal my current student aid suspension for the Fall 2013 semester. I understand that the release of financial aid to me is of concern of the college due to my GPA being a 1.7 overall and 1.43 for the Spring 2013 semester. However, I have taken the steps to remedy the errors on my academic transcript regarding the repeated classes. The severity of the lower grades on my transcript affected my acceptance into the College of Arts and Sciences and I was immediately informed of my dismissal.
Once I was instructed on the next steps I needed to take to remain enrolled at the University for the Fall 2013 semester, I contacted John Dell at the Center for Student Advancement and then I made an appointment to meet with Kendra Tahsequah at the Academic Advising Resource Center. After speaking with Ms. Tahsequah, she informed me she would be submitting the paper work to the Records and Transcripts Office to recalculate my GPA with the repeat classes taken at OU as well as West Texas A&M.
After waiting a couple of days, I again checked my unofficial transcript and my GPA. I instantly noticed that my GPA had been recalculated to a 2.03 institution and 2.28 overall. This would mean I no longer had a need to be on academic probation. I immediately contacted Mr. Dell and Ms. Tahsequah and informed them of the same. They instructed me that I would be able to remain in the College of Arts and Sciences and I would no longer have the need to meet with Ms. Tahsequah on June 13, 2013. After speaking with them, I contacted Ms. Brinda Thomas at the College of Arts and Sciences, and she confirmed what had already been communicated with me and that I am no longer on Academic

It took me awhile to understand. I thought back to how I did my application, and what I could’ve possibly done wrong. I came to the conclusion that maybe my essay wasn’t good enough as well as my gpa. At the time my gpa wasn’t as high as it is now. I also though back to my recommendation letters, and how I was unable to get them in on time. This mistake helped me realize that I could’ve done a lot batter for my application. I now know that I should try and have things done in a decent amount of time, and to pick the right teachers to do recommendation…

At the start of spring semester my freshman year I had an outstanding balance with my home institution. This balance caused me a lot of stress and the time that I should’ve spending study was instead being spent on worrying on thoughts of how I might not be able to return in the fall. Fortunately with the money I earned through my internship that summer I was able to bring my remaining balance down low enough for me to enroll for classes. However in order to not put myself in that position I took on numerous jobs on campus, spreading myself too thin and not leaving enough space for my studies. After talking with my professors and getting their advice I was able to manage being both a full time student and working the hours of a full time employee.…

This letter is written in an attempt to appeal my academic suspension and grant me another chance to receive financial aid to allow me to continue my education towards my degree in nursing. On May 6, 2012 I faxed over my appeal to financial aid for the fall 2012 semester at Capital Community College which was denied. During the 2010- 2011 school year my grades were poor and I received a letter by mail stating that I was dismissed due to my academic progress & a low GPA. The cause is no less than my own fault, but I believe the circumstances I faced led my focus away from my education.…

I did my best to keep up with academics, duties, and avoided getting into trouble. At the end of the semester, my team leader and I both received a military grade of A. However, second semester took a turn for the worse. The change of command, gray period and a myriad of other troubles tested my resolve to stay at the academy. Aside from my new team leader, I did not get along well with my new chain of command. As a result, my relationship with the company greatly declined and although I was taking fewer courses, my grades declined as well. Academically deficient and apathetic, I was at risk of failing out of the academy.…

Today my daughter is four years old and I am trying my very best to give her a good future by finishing what I’ve started which is going back to school to become a nurse. He came in his first semester thinking it was going to be as smooth as BMCC, but he was completely wrong. He chose Computer Science as his major, which mid semester he realized he wanted nothing to do with. Which lead him to drop classes and fail miserably in the ones he was still enrolled in. He then decided that he should probably take a summer class to boost the horrible GPA he was left with. But he got so caught up in work he never went to the summer class in which actually resulted in an F grade, and him having to pay out of pocket for a class that did nothing for him. Now comes fall semester and when he tried to enroll in classes they were automatically dropped due to his financial aid being cut off because of the low GPA. He now had to take a semester off and write a letter of appeal explaining to financial aid why he did so poorly last semester and how much better he would do the next to semester if he was granted back his financial aid. During this whole time he was in a program…

I’m a returning student from Fall of 2006, however I didn’t complete the two classes I originally registered for that year. After an extended time off I returned 10 years later to complete my degree. After my first semester Spring of 2016, I earned a 3.0 GPA, but unbeknownst to me, my ASU GPA was reflecting at a 1.62. After further investigation, I realized that the classes I didn’t complete back from 2006 were the reason my GPA dropped drastically. I have been attempting to bring my GPA up to good standings since then, but now I have completed a majority of the classes required to graduate. Moreover, I am unable to register for the last three Communication classes in order to graduate (e.g. COM 312, COM 430, and COM 453). Consequently, I have…

I need to reapply for financial aid for the new school year before the due date which is usually in August. Since I am under 24 I need to wait for my mother to fill out her taxes. In the meantime, I’ll gather our 2009 income tax returns, social security numbers, and W-2 forms (which everyone needs in order to apply). Students can start applying January 1; since my mother and I already have a pin (which is needed and obtainable at www.pin.ed.org) I’ll log in to www.fafsa.gov and fill out the financial aid form using our estimates. The FAFSA priority deadline for fall is March 31!!! Once my mom files her taxes (which are due April 15, 2010) I’ll correct all the information with the accurate numbers and calculations. It is crucial that I remember to put down my schools federal code, which for CSI is 002698. If I am having trouble with this at home I will call Stefani Gardener (the SEEK financial aid advisor) and set up an appointment so she can help me. Now that that’s complete I will link to ‘TAP on the web’ from my FAFSA application which is for New York residents only. For TAP I need to list CSI’s New York state school code which is 1417 (TAP only awards the first school listed on the FAFSA). Then I will be mailed an Student Aid Report (SAR) and if everything is correct on that I can go ahead and verify my data. Lastly, CUNY will alert me by email to file a CUNY Financial Aid Supplement via CUNY portal. If I do not complete this I will not be considered for certain state…

One of the biggest bumps in the road during my academic carrier was during junior year when I got denied acceptance into NHS. I received a short black and white letter stating that I did not have a high enough GPA and I had “weak course load”. Keep in mind the requirement for acceptance was a 3.5 GPA and at the time I had a 3.6 GPA. I was simply outraged and discouraged. I talked with my mother shortly after, she told me she never got accepted into NHS either; I was not going to accept rejection. I began to ask some teachers about what they thought, the majority sided with me on questioning why I did not get in. So I wrote a six paragraph reply asking for a better explanation as to why I was rejected, I had also stated how I met the requirements for every…

My recent decision to enroll in a university to continue and complete my pursuit of an undergraduate degree was not especially difficult. Selection of and commitment to a particular university was not as simple. Multiple factors including, but not limited to, price point, reputation, ease of access, and career relevance were weighed. I selected Western Governors University and remain very satisfied with this choice. Cost is a major determining factor, and one in which WGU holds a tremendous advantage over competing learning institutions.…
