Firefly essay (for kids)
Fireflies are little unique nocturnal creatures found all over the world, from a hard shell to a light up bottom, from 1900 types to see, fireflies are amazing.

Fireflies are everywhere!Fireflies originated in England, but they soon spread around the world to every continent apart from the polar regions, the main reasons of the spread was due to the cold temperature that England reached.

Don’t go too far to look for some fireflies. Fireflies have habitats in caves, damp grass , beside streams and in rivers, as they are nocturnal they will like dark places.

They look like beetles. Fireflies are actually not flies, they are actually beetles. Fireflies are black or brown and have bright colored markings. The male is 10-12 mm long and females are 15-20 mm long. To make the glowing light on their underside, the firefly has a chemical in their body, that when mixed with oxygen, makes the glow you see.

The way they travel is simple. The firefly moves by either flying or crawling.

The long life-cycle. Fireflies live up to 1 year 5 weeks ( average) from egg to adult, the life cycle goes : Egg; 2 weeks, Larva; longer than a year, Pupa; 3 weeks, Adults; 30 days.
The main target of the Adult firefly is to find a mate. They will do so by flashing their own unique light pattern which will hopefully attract a mate. However, sometimes the females will falsely attract a male, and when he arrives she will eat him.

The buggy diet of a firefly is odd. The larva of a firefly eat the most as they need to fatten up to survive. The diet of an adult is slimy, they eat slugs and snails, they firstly find their prey, then they bite into the prey, injection poison which paralyzes it and starts to digest it making it a thick soup, then they suck it up through their jaws. On rare occasion fireflies will eat nectar.
In my opinion I think that fire flies are the most incredible beetles I have ever learnt and written about. I would love to see some in the future.

The X/Y sex chromosomes and the 2,3,4, autosomes. It is important to know the differences between the two adult sexes in order to record and collect the data accurately. The major sexual differences in Drosophila are apparent in the abdominal segment of the flies. In males, the last abdominal segment of the male is much larger and rounded than that in the female. Another indicator is the presence of sex combs present in males. Male flies has a small, densely packed bristles call sex comb on the outer joints of both forelegs. Females lack sex combs. Therefore, if one sees sex combs on a fly, it is certain that the fly is a male. Female fruit flies remain virgins for approximately six hours after hatching but will mate after the six hour window. It is important for the female flies to be virgin, so one knows which fly genotypes are…

Drosophila melanogaster is a common fruit fly that has been useful for most experiments in the study of Genetics. The male and the female fruit fly are similar and different in regards to how they look, structurally. They are similar because both genders have a head, thorax, proboscis, antennae, eyes, and mouth parts. However, males are smaller than females and have about five abdominal segments as opposed to the seven that the female has. The life cycle of these fruit flies consist of egg, larvae, metamorphosis, and then adult stages. During the egg stage of their life cycle, the eggs are sunk into the food until they become larvae that spend all of their time eating. In the pupa stage, the pupal case forms, darkens and hardens for 4-6 days. Finally, the pupa closes into the adult stage. Male fruit flies have a smaller body with a rounded black tip at the…
