Five Books That Changed My Life
Five Books that Changed My Life
Life is made up of experiences. It is experience that makes our life and it is experience that ruins it. Opportunities come and go and experience totally depends on how we use the opportunities. Life gives us experience in various forms and one of the small ones is through books. Although it seems to be small, it can play one of the major roles in shaping our life. I know of a man who was in deep trouble and it was a book that changed his life because that book taught him how to tackle his problems. Books are our best friends and I as an individual love to read books and there are definitely many books that I have read, among which five have come out to be my best pals.
The first one is a book called ‘You Can Win’ which my maternal grandfather gifted to me on his visit to ours. Written by Shiv Khera, the book is an international best seller famous for its proverb ‘Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently’. It has changed me from a person with a negative attitude, demotivation, little self-esteem, and less confidence to one with a positive and goal-setting attitude, motivation, confidence and self-esteem. In one sense, this book is a construction manual. It describes the tools we would need for success, and offers blueprints to help us build a successful and rewarding life. In a second sense, it is a cookbook. It lists the ingredients- the principles we will need to follow to become successful and gives us the recipe for mixing them in correct proportions. But above all, this is a guidebook, a book that explains step by step how to take ourselves from dreaming about success to unlocking our potential for success. It has taught me to learn from mistakes and to keep moving in the correct direction to achieve my goal.
The second is a not-so-famous book named ‘The Encyclopedia of World Wildlife’ written by Mike and Peggy Briggs. I bought this book last year in the book fair organized in our town. I am interested a

The art of literature will never die. Many people believe that there has been a decline in the reading and writing of literature, one of those people Dana Gioia wrote “Why Literature Matters” and she argues that the younger people of america although have had an increase in education their reading of literature has had a steep decline in recent years . Dana begins building her credibility with facts and sources, citing convincing facts and statistics, and successfully employing emotional appeal throughout the passage. Throughout the piece she uses many strong facts to strengthen her credibility and to appeal to logos, as well as build her argument.…

Books, they take you on a journey. A journey of fear, hope, adventure, love and sadness. Some books are fiction, and others take you on a real adventure where things that seem completely fake are real. They take us away from our air conditioned, comfortable homes and take us to a completely different place; one of those books are A Long Walk to Water (Linda Sue Park). Some other books have real world problem but is a made up story, one of these books are Rules (Cynthia Lord). These books are extremely different, but in many ways they’re the same.…

“Books are uniquely portable magic,” Stephen King wrote in On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. I quite agree with this view. In retrospect, the genres of books which I read gradually varied as of aged. Additionally, those books which I have read, broadened my horizon and improved my comprehension ability to some degree.…

In Patrick Henry’s “Speech in the Virginia Convention,” he remarked, “I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided and that is the lamp of experience.” Libraries are built on books, schools rely on them. Millions of people have written them to share knowledge and experiences with others. The value of a book is immeasurable, yet some things just can’t be learned by reading books alone.…

Anne Lamott said, “Good literature substitutes for an experience which we have not ourselves lived through.” Good literature allows individuals to live through events which they have not encountered in their lives. I agree with this quote because I believe it is true. This quote is shown to be true through the books, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. In both pieces of literature, characters had an experience which we haven’t had or been through. Books help us understand the situations that we haven’t faced yet.…

“A book is a gift you can open again and again,” wrote Garrison Keillor. People read all the time. They read for information, for escape, for entertainment, for instruction, for guidance. They read recipes and tweets and texts. They read newspapers, blogs, and Facebook replies. In a recent survey by Pew Research, the number of people who actually read a book in the past year was 72 percent in 2015. I am one of those. As I consider my reading experiences, I realize they represent the journey I have traveled, leading me to my current academic path.…

Books are an extraordinary thing. They are one of the closest things to a time machine as they can take you essentially anywhere in your mind. For many people, books are like a friend. I just finished my volleyball game, and my team won, I walked outside the gym to see my best friend standing there telling me I did awesome, we hugged said goodbye to each other and I left for home. I then went outside to watch my neighbors kids for four hours, then went inside and played Wii with my dad. That’s when it all changed. I looked at my IPhone 3GS and read the most devastating text I had ever received from my best friend, “Taylor, you need to change who you are, no one likes you…” This text lengthened and explained how come no one liked me. This one text had changed my life forever.…

Books are precious pieces that improve one’s knowledge and help define one’s personality by relating themselves to characters within the text. As Vladimir Nabokov said in Good Readers and Good Writers “The reader should identify himself or herself with the hero or heroine.”(Nabokov, 973) I always believed that by reading a book you become one with yourself by somehow feeling all the problems of the characters and become completely absorbed in their world, therefore feeling like you have a purpose as you read.…
