In my experience, something I have done is play an instrument. For me, playing the ukulele was something that took time and experience. No matter your vast knowledge of the instrument, you can’t become a world renowned musician without a little practice. Hitting the keys and strumming the strings is way different than just researching or reading about it. The pressure you put on the strings or the way you strum the chords. …show more content…
Imagine going to a restaurant and ordering something you’ve read in a book.
By learning about a food, you can’t just know how it will taste. By doing research you may learn about what’s in it or how it’s made. When I went to a cheer competition with my friend, we stayed at her Aunt’s house. Her aunt made a different kind of pie, I had never heard of it. My friend and her mom explained it to me and they were looking up things about it. When we got to her house and I actually tried it, it was really gross. It was not at all like I expected.
Honestly, makeup tutorials take a bunch of practice. I have spent a great deal of time watching makeup tutorials on how to contour and fill in my eyebrows, but when I actually do it, I look like a clown. Watching hundreds of youtubers, researching the perfect arch, and searching the web for the highest rating product will only get you so far. When trying makeup tutorials, research will definitely help, but trial and error is the way to
go.
Moving on from failure teaches through experience. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts” -Winston Churchill. In life we try, and sadly, sometimes we fail, whether you fall on a tumbling pass or fail a class. In some classrooms, there are quotes about failure and moving on from it, but when failure strikes, it’s a lot harder to forget about it and keep going. Last year at a cheer competition in Arizona, I fell out of stunts and landed on my head in tumbling passes. I felt like I had given it my best, but I just felt defeated. I was really upset with myself and I felt like I let my team down. Moving on from my failure was super hard, I was about to quit my team and go to an easier level. It took a lot to show up to the next practice, because I thought I was the reason we lost. For the next few competitions that routine and those mistakes were in the back of my head. Even though I had moved on, I had mental blocks and fear of making the same mistakes. Trust me, moving on and forgetting about it so much harder than the cat posters make it out to be. That experience helped me learn how to move on, which is better than any motivational quote or book.
