Understanding my FLC have helped me identify different the developmental tasks and how my family and I moved on to the various stages. Without being equipped with important skills at any one stage, it may not permit us to follow through the next stage successfully.
When my father passed away in 1997, my family and myself have to build and gain new skills in coping with a single parent family system to help us to try to move forward to the subsequent stages.
He passed on when I was ten years old and my brother nine respectively. My father was the sole bread winner of the house and the death of my father immediately created an impact on my homemaker mother. Following his death, she has to go out to seek employment to ensure our financial needs

I’ve been told the impact of a parent’s passing can carry on for years or forever. I was my mother’s primary care giver for two years. In her last four months, along with hospice, I took care of her full time along with maintaining my full time job. She passed in her home surrounded by me and my other two siblings in January. Just three months later my dad, who was not married to my mom, died unexpectedly in his sleep. I am still in the tender times of grief from my mother’s and father’s deaths. Who would think I could fathom writing about such a sorrowful time in addition to writing about the lessons I learned from my mother’s last months and the graceful way she left this earth. I relive this not only because it is kind of…

Her daughter, Susie, who is married with three school-aged children, agrees to let her mother move in with her. Susie is concerned with balancing the demands of her career and the needs of her family, especially now that her elderly and chronically ill mother will need assistance. She is also unsure about how she feels with the reversal of roles, having to now be the primary caregiver of her mother. How can the nurse, caring for this family, assist with the changes they are about to undergo? How can both the family structural theory and the family developmental theory be applied to this scenario? How can health education enhance health promotion for this family? Being raised in a single parent household, with an autistic sister, has helped shape me into the person that I am today. Due to my family’s circumstances, I was expected to assume responsibilities at home at an early age. Not only do I have a great sense of responsibility, I also know how to handle disappointments. As an adult, I have learned to appreciate the sacrifices and efforts that my mother has made for our family but, as a child my mindset was different and I resented growing up faster than my peers. As I continue to develop into an adult, I realize that growing up in a single…

Over the course of Quarter, I composed more than a few FRQs. Throughout my many in-class essays, I learned not only about rhetorical analysis, but also some tendencies I have as a writer. In all four of my essays, the most prominent trend I exemplified was a lack of focus on certain pieces of my analysis. Often, I would provide a strong analysis of certain evidence, but then would begin to stray from my original point. Occasionally, my sentences proved nothing, such as when I wrote that, “This major depiction of the two vastly different sides of the soldier’s lives makes the men seem more real and human”. Another pattern that was prevalent in my FRQs was writing one or two sentences that seemed clumsy or awkward to the reader. One such sentence…

This was a tough time for me, but I knew I had to push forward to succeed. Living with my mother after the divorce, I felt that I had to excel because I wanted to bring something positive to my divorced family. I wanted to help my mother get through such a hard time, and that’s what made me determined to excel every day. The impact she placed in my heart, the love she has for me and the memory of those hard times will never escape my mind.…
